Hi Everyone!

Why do many dietary supplements have more than 100% daily value(DV) of a certain ingtredient For instance, I bought a calcium-magnesium supplement which contains 250% DV magnesium.

Why do they have so much of the ingredient? The supplement also contains 1000% DV of calcium. 10 times the daily value!

Why so much?

Most vitamins where absorption takes place in the small intestines pass through too fast for efficient uptake, unlike real food. The dosages are higher to make up for the inefficiency in absorption.

because very little to none is actually absorbed

calcium is one of the minerals that it is best gotten through actual water. problem is when you use a filter at home it filters out EVERYTHING.. the good and the bad. so you lose that calcium

also foods high in calcium do not actuall necessarily translate to higher levels of calcium in the body. the dairy industry is notorious for making claims that milk is high in calcium (which is true), however when you put it into your body you actually leech your bones of calcium when you consume milk! this is why the public is so confused

the truth is calcium should be treated like an electrolyte, not a mineral (sorry nutritionists)

bottom line is if you want calcium, going to the drug store and grabbing calcium off the shelf and thinking that will boost your levels of calcium is 100% false and BULLSHIT
