as some of you know, my main goal for the near future would be a national/world record bench for my age and weight class..

the age group would be 14-15 in the usapl, or 13-15 in the apa i think.. anyways, from what im seeing, the 242 class record for my age group is 319(usapl national), and 325(apa world record, tested and non-tested), there's more records in different federations im not sure of..

whats confusing is the rules for each federation and how to decide what record to go for. the apa world would be nice, and they allow denim and double ply shirts, where the usapl allows single ply only, i think.

i dont know where to go from here...

i bench 250 raw, i've never lifted in a shirt, and i've never trained westside for more than a week. i turn 15 on august 31. i know it's possible, but it's gonna take a bit of work

train for using a double ply shirt, and go for the APA record, the 325 APA is going to be easier to get than the 319 USAPL, because single ply dont give you that much.

If you bust your ass, you can break that record before you 16th birthday

why not go for both?

that'd be nice but i dont have enough $ for different shirts and different cards and stuff, plus i dont know if usapl or apa actually comes to wisconsin very often so it would suck to travel far just to get to a meet, etc

double poly or denim sounds good to me...anybody have suggestions on a shirt?

While I have no first hand knowledge (yet) the FURY seems to be getting so good reviews. It is cheaper than double denims...and I think it is legal in both the organizations you are looking to compete in. Just a thought...

whats this new boss thing thats coming out? any other suggestions?

now i see that the world record in the 220 pound class for my age in the wpa is 200 tested and 240 tested...thats horrible! i could drop 20 pounds, lose a lot of strength and still get those records...is this a low-class fed or something? i dont think it would be much of an accomplishment...

Ya its a low class fed. It only has the biggest bench and deadlift of all time! The WPA and APA are run by the same. NOt many WPA meets more APA. I have a guy who lifted on my team a year ago and weighed 135 and was 16 yrs old and did 335. THere aint to many 14 yr olds who compete. I had to re read this thread to see you were a kid. Here is some advice dont bash other feds, especially if you have zero experince with ANY. The APA has been around one of the longest and has had WAY bigger lifts then the USAPL. Just a fact. The best in the business have or lift in the APA including the new KIng of the bench. The records may seem low to you but how many 240lb 14 yr olds compete? Drop 100LBs and you probably wouldnt see a record. Maybe you would. BUt there would be more kids that size then yours. So the numbers would be better.

But either way not one top bencher benches USAPL.

i wasnt fed bashing at all...i was asking if it was low-class or not. thats all...i asked because, of course, i have zero experience and i thought maybe more experienced people would. that's all. but thank you for answering my question
