nuts for a bedtime snack

Hey you all: I am trying to settle on a good protein snack for late at nite before bed and I am considering pistachios or mixed nuts. I am supposed to avoid peanuts so am wondering what do you think of the nut idea? Are they hard on bodyfat? I want to cut more than bulk so this is a prime consideration. Any suggestions will earn you another knotch towards heaven.

As well what can be said for just fruits/salads and protein powder for cutting cycles as long as I am taking my daily EFA supplements? Easy on the fruit of course.

Nuts would be a good fat source for your pre-bed meal but they are not a complete protein so maybe have some cottage cheese and a handful of nuts. If you don't like cott. cheese find some other source of slowly digesting protein like meats, or a casein shake if you dont want real food. Nuts are a great source of EFA's so they are good for a cut as long as you don't eat too much fat.

As far as the fruit salads i would just watch out if they are they kind with a sugary yogurt type sauce. Fruit is good but maybe try to have it at breakfast or as early in the day as possible. Protein powder is fine but whole food is always better cept pwo when Whey is the best choice.

Sublime's got good advice there, i'd keep the fruit early in the day. Nuts are good before bed, i like to have them with oats and cottage cheese before bed, i usually go kind of heavy on the cottage cheese for the casein, and the oats for slow digesting carbs, nuts for good fats.

I have a personal trainer friend tell me that 2 big handfuls of trail mix is about the best thing u can eat before bed to stay on the lean side. I have some that has almonds, peanuts, cherries, rasins, and mango in it with no added sugar. (it's all dried fruit with no sugar on it) If trying to bulk up he suggested a PB and Honey sandwhich with a glass of nonfat milk with protien powder in it (slow release). Is this way off or about right?

Thanks guys - this adds a bit to my knowledge to my dieting regime

It sounds ok as long as you arent taking in too much in fats from the almonds and peanuts in the trail mix. I dont know that i would go with the PB and honey sandwich, at least the honey part, i restrict my sugars quite a bit, especially later in the day, i'd do it without the honey. That might just be me though?

I like whole, unsalted almonds myself for a pre-bed snack....

Or sliced almonds on top of cottage cheese

HI I'm new here but here is my 2 cents. Aren't you supposed to keep carbs fairly low before bed and just try to eat slow digesting protein with some healthy fats??? Atleast that's what I do... What do you guys think?
