New squat question?

nice booty shot :)

I agree that BF% & geneticsplay a role in butt shape... & even tho squats def fill out a flat/ square ass-- you should add lunges, SLDLs, cable kickbacks, hyperextensions...

the goal is not to just add size-- but contour the muslce...

Yeah, I'll leave that pretty work up to takiniteasy, I'm just trying to squat 500 by June. :)

I hit 200 on my squats a few months back & got a little hernia out of it... so please be careful!!

I'm casting my vote for poking his eyes out.

For god's sake, don't get a complex about your butt or your body fat percentage. Squats will do you a lot of good, but they may not fulfill your (or your boyfriend's) fantasy of the perfect butt.

Some people just have rounder cheeks than others. My butt is more curvy and higher than it was before I started lifting, but it's never going to be round b/c I don't have the "round butt" gene - my sister got that one. She's had that bubble butt since she was born - probably never did a heavy squat a day in her life.

Speaking of pull-throughs - I did some this morning, and you're right, 2Shy - they definitely hit the glutes as well as the hammies. It's that squeeze at the top, baby!

I'm so glad there was no one in the gym though - pull-throughs can be a little obscene looking.

RDLs are similar to SDLs, only they focus on the hammies and glutes and pretty much leave the lower back out of the picture. You do them with an arched back and slightly bent knees, so when you lower the weight, you shouldn't be able to extend much past your knees (unless you're super flexible). As you raise the weight, you thrust your hips forward and tighten the glutes. They are my favorite ass developer!

Squats are great too, but you have to sit back and break parallel. If you're leaning forward over your knees, you're going to hit the quads more than the hammies and glutes. If you're doing a wide stance, you're using abductors just as much as hammies, so you're really getting nice leg development - as you can tell from Spatts.

Great butt shot, Spatts!

I'll give a thumbs-up to RDLs as well. I used to do SLDLs and just switched over to RDLs for my past few leg workouts and OMG...my butt hurts for three days afterwards! Its a great, great feeling!

But once again, "development" doesn't necessarily produce a certain butt shape. My ass is NEVER, EVER, EVER going to look like BronzedGoddess'.

Well, maybe it will if I go see this guy.

Thanks for all the response. I have developed great legs due to squats but my bootay just doesn't seem to respond as well. I keep wondering about butt implants. Nah! Dont need them that bad. However I am going to try the RDLs and pull throughs that have been mentioned. Uh, maybe dumb question but are pull throughs done with cables? I actually dont think I have ever done them or seen them done for that matter.
Anyone care to elaborate?

God, what I would do to have a butt like Spatts!
