Never using a belt okay?

Well, I am getting pretty strong in the squat and deadlifting areas and i was wondering if i should incorporate a belt? max squat is 405 and dead is 455. I have never used a belt in my life and i getting to the point that i am worried that all that weight might be too much pressure on my spine and discs. i am the only one in my gym that doesnt use a belt on heavy lifts and i get crap for it. i persoanlly think it is good that i dont use a belt for the fact that my back is getting very strong.

should i start wearing a belt on my very heavy lifts (80%+of my max)?

i'm yet to actually use one, but then again, i don't max out. in terms of working sets, i don't really see the need, such that your form is on point.

Only for your PR

the belt won't stop you hurting your back if your form is bad.

Never used one never will, just don't see the point.

only for PR.....

i find one flaw with that. with a belt you will be able to lift more. its not realistic number. you've set a PR with a belt, but work out without up to what point? if you PR @ 410 one week, and then PR @ 425 the next, my bet is that you hit a set of 410 beltless prior to your 425 attempt, so in a sense you did your previous weeks PR beltless anyways. on the flipside, you may miss your 410 attempt because you were beltless anyways. there is no reference since all of your new PR's are with a belt. you dont know whats "safe" and whats not anymore. best bet is to bulletproof your core and keep lifting beltless. if you compete, you can incorporate equipment into your training.
