Starting CKD..Progress updates and Net Carbs?

Starting CKD tomorrow! Do you have to subtract fiber from the carbs to get net carbs, or do you just count carbs as carbs. Walnuts for example. Thanks in advance!:D

flexygrl, buy Dr. Adkins New Diet Revolution. It's about $6 at Wal-mart in paperback. He researched the amount of absorbable carbs in most common foods and put them in the book. I know walnuts already because I eat them alot. Its about 6.3 grams per cup, which means you can easily add a cup of walnuts to your diet a day a stay under 20 grams. A cup of walnuts would be 80 g of fat (all healthy fats to boot), 6.3 g of carbs, 20 g of protein. A great keto food.

Although a bit more pricey, macadamian nuts are even better at 96 g of fat, 6.3 g of carbs and 12 g of protein per cup. The fat to protien ratio is beautiful at 8 to 1, and again, they are loaded with fiber, nutrients and good fats.

Hi,

Yup! I was thinking about buying them yesterday. I wound up buying Pecans and I think Walnuts. I don't remember.

So I started CKD today. Feeling fine so far. I had a great breakfast!! Here's what I had so far.

BF

1 1/2 eggs scrampled in 2 tbs of oil
Bacon
1tbs of olive oil(gross)

Lunch
Salad with blue cheese dressing
4 oz chicken breast with blue cheese dressing.

Dinner
Another salad
Cofee with heavy cream
Peanut Butter

fitday.com is great!! I had my day mapped out yesterday and I am just following it and checking of the foods I ate today.

Thanks for all your help. I will keep you updated on my progress!!!

Starting weight:
142.2

Increase your meal frequintcy, it will speed up your metabolism, and spare more muscle. Try ate least 6 meals a day, don't go more than 3 hours without eating. The food breakdown looks good though, just break each meal into two smaller one's if you can. Make sure the peanut butter is natural peanut butter, no sugar or hygrogenated oil in the ingrediants.

Hi,

I don't think it's natural. Just skippy, crunchy. Should I not have it? I thought as long as the carbs weren't high or it I met the numbers then I would be okay?

Another ?, When I plan my meals for the day Today and tomorrow, I wind up going over my calories by like 20. This is the best I can do to get the fat and protein ratios to where they are suppose to be. Do you think this will hurt me?

Higher calories won't hurt at first, so you should be fine. No don't eat it. Skippy doesn't make a natural pb. They do add some table sugar, you want all of your carbs, the few that you get, to be from high nutritional value foods and have a very low glycemic index. Any processed sugar is a waste of the 15 or 20 grams you are allowed to have. Most peanut butters have hydrogenated oil in them, which should be avoided by everyone. It will impede your fat lost progess, and it is bad for your health (bear in mind this is coming from someone who isn't frightened by steroids so it must be pretty bad stuff...I'll go out on a limb and say that most steroids used at reasonable doses will cause less damage to yoru body than a tablespoon of hygrogenated oil a day).

Wow interesting!! Okay how about trident sugar free gum. I am a freak about my breath. Will this knock me out of ketosis?

Hmmmm...haven't tested the gum yet, I promise I will within the next week though. I have some at home. Flew up to Michigan a couple weeks ago, and had alot fo inner ear problems as a kid so the pressure changes when taking off and landing are pretty painful so I chew gum to help. Have about half a packet left. Brush your teeth alot, I worry about the ketone breath too, girls may not like it.
