Need help with my shoulder!

Guys, my left shoulder has been killing me for about 2-3 months now. I aggravated it by doing heavy seatded d-bell presses with the 115's, and heavy inclines with 315. I layed off my shoulder training for a few weeks, and can no longer do any presses with a straight bar.

I've been doing flat d-bell presses for chest with the 125's, and can only do them with my palms facing together...if I try to turn my hands so they face forward, my shoulder screems in pain. Seated d-bell presses, I went from doing work sets with the 115's, to doing Arnold presses with the 60's. The Arnold press is the only shoulder press I can do without too much pain. However, I can still go very heavy with upwright rows with a medium/close grip. 185-190lbs for sets of 6-8 don't bother my shoulder the least bit. Laterals don't hurt to bad either....just overhead pressing movements, and pressing movemenst for my chest.

I have no idea whats going on with my shoulder. I took 10 days off, and went back to the gym today. All the healing my shoulder did in that 10 days has been completely erased by one set of flat d-bell presses.

Does it sound like its my rotator cuff? Any suggestions or recommendations? I'd really hate to take a long layoff from the gym. At this point, my shoulder doesn't seem to be getting any worse, but its not getting any better. Doing heavy flat d-bell presses again has become tolerable....two months ago I couldn't even think of going heavy with chest.

Not sure what do do now. I'm 25 and have been training since I was 15....never been injured like this before.

I really don't know what a doctor would be able to do for it...besides tell me to stop lifting.

Yeah, probably. For a while, but not forever. I'm no doctor, but it sounds to me like you're continuously re-injuring that shoulder.

So it's pretty simple really. Keep doing what you're doing until your arm falls off altogether, or suck it up and go to the doc. He may or may not be able to help, but at least you'll know what's wrong.

one tip is to change the angle of ur elbows when ur doing presses try havin em facing forward or go use a machine just try to find an angle u can work in there is always one angle that would suite u try moving em a little at a time.

just a tip from one with really fucked up shoulders

sore shoulder

sounds like bicep tendinitis. i am no doctor but it sure sounds like it. take another week off except for legs. stretching is what you need everyday twice a day. also take two motrin and two tylenol every four hours for pain and inflammation. if you need some advice on stretching email me.

Really, bicep tendinitis? Hmm, never thought of that. The pain feels like its coming deep within the front of the deltoid (anterior). Right now I have a dull ache in that area...bout to pop a few motrin.

What kind of stretches would you recommend?

put some pressure on the front of your delt with your thumb if you find the soreness try running your thumb down your shoulder to the bicep see if the pain goes that far down. if it is real bad the pain will continue all the way down your bicep to the elbow.

stretch:
lie on you back knees bent arms straight out palms up like you are nailed to a cross. now turn one palm down flat on the floor and let your knees fall to the opposite side the palm that is down stays down. repeat for other side.

2) stand in door way with arms at 90% on the frame slowly lean forward through the door

stretch but do not go to the point of pain.

For some reason, I can't locate the any soreness in my shoulder by applying pressure into the muscle with my thumb. I don't whether thats a good sign, or bad.

I just did the streches you recommended. They felt good, especialy the first strech you suggested. I'll keep at it twice a day and see if that helps.

I dunno what you have but how heavy do you lift?I used to do alot of heavy shoulder work and developed crepitus in both of my shoulders.Worse in my right.I had to lay off all direct shoulder work.no nosebreakers on triceps and light work on chest because of it.After almost a year I thought it had gone away. Now thta I'm moving back up to serious shoulder work again its becoming inflammed.I just can't win.Looks like possible surgery for me sometime.BTW I'm 25 also.
