Meet Report and VIDEOS (really this time)!! - Blue Mountain Open 2006

Very very dissapointing day for me!!!

I had hoped to go 95/100/105 - 115/120/125, but instead only made 3 of 6 lifts! Terrible day!

Got up at 5:00am and weighed around 76kg, possibly a little less, like 75.5. This is scary, since I have not weighed close to 165lbs in over a year. I will tell you though, I've never been so cut up either. Took a back pic just for the hell of it and with/without carbs is completely night and day.

I weighed in at 76.7kg as I ate breakfast at my coach's place.

Made a really big mistake though. After eating some of my own food I had some time between the lifting during the girls' sessions so I went to a local diner for bacon and eggs. I eneded up getting sick and tossing all of it up. Had to make some emergency trips to the washroom all the way up till the snatch.

I was very sluggish with 85kg warmup in the snatch so I opened with 90kg. Got that very very easily, the comp bar felt lighter than the warmup bar. We jumped 6kg and I was being dumb and just pulled too slowly and missed my second snatch. I repeated the 96kg for the third lift and made it with ease. God won't let me snatch 100kg.

Clean and Jerk felt okay, but my legs felt like jello. Opened with 115 after actually missing the jerk on 110 in the warmup room. Strangest thing happened: the 110kg in the warmup room I almost power cleaned but when I tried to jerk it, the bar slipped off my collar. My coach gave me the "are you retarded?" look. Made 115kg on the platform with ease - in fact from the video, it looks like I should have opened with 120kg.

120kg second attempt, I COULDN'T CLEAN IT?! WTF, I cleaned it after a heavy day of backsquats and pulls!

120kg, third attempt, it just squashed me. I'm so dissapointed I don't know what to say. Let everybody down especially when it's a huge venue. Did not get to go to my capability and I'm pissed at that. I don't know why I missed such an easy lift.

Well I hope you all enjoy the videos. I'll be posting more later on - I've got 1 gig of lifting from Saturday.

sorry that you did not get what you wanted bro. the food issue did not help at all. was this your first meet? if so i would think that would have a big impact on it also. you will get there.

Nice job on competing, and congrats. Sometimes things go your way, sometimes they don't....it is annoying to miss a lift you've done a million times before under less favorable conditions, but thats out of your control....you layed it all on the line and thats what counts.

Sorry things didn't work out on this one. Hey, at least you're competing, which is more than most of us are doing! Keep at it, SR.

Disappointing but you'll get 'em next time.

BTW, you're a cool dude for doing all these activities and posting up your successes and even your mishaps - I still remember that first shot put attempt :p

Oh man don't bring that up. I should try to find some throwing implements and see how the oly lifting has affected my ability to throw heafvy things..

you showed up and got half the lifts which is an achievement in itself.. good work imo, abd you'll do a lot better next time now you've had the experience [/drPhil]

i've never lifted in a comp, but i have had experience in sprinting competitively.
sprinters (and i'm sure oly lifters are no different) are just so finely tuned that it takes only little things to ensure a bad day sometimes. one of those little things is lack of competition experience. i'm sure things will go more smoothly the next time as there are just so many things involved with getting it just right at a comp. the understanding of those things comes with experience :)
