marcy 4360 machine vs free weights

For home gym equipment, what would you guys go for between this marcy machine and a nice set of free weights to pump your muscles in general on your upper body? I'm sick of going to gym and having to wait to use the equipment, I want to purchase my own as I got plenty of room in my house, thanks for opinions.

Free weights are always superior. Machines have their place but they don't train the central nervous system and stabilizer muscles the way free weights do.

Part of the reason physiques of the modern area are not near as impressive as physiques of the 80s and 90s is because no one uses free weights anymore. Everyone uses these fancy hammer strength machines which arent near as good as free weights.

Free weights are the best and always will be the best.

this is actually a great time of year to go hunting for gym equipment. if you go on craigslist you will find tons of people dumping their stuff for cheap just to make room at home. i would get some mats, rubber weights for your deadlifts/cleans, a couple olympic bars, a squat rack, a bench press setup that you can incline the back. and then of course a bunch of metal weights.

First thing I would get is a power rack. Then get free weights. That will allow you to hit the compound movements like bench, squats, deadlifts that are important.

I am always going for the free weights. It gives you much more flexibility in terms of exercises you can do.
