Is it OK to premix protein shakes?

Currently I mix my whey protein shakes with skim milk and leave in the fridge. I mix two scoops (2 shakes) at a time and either take to work each day which I keep in the fridge until I need in the mid morning and another in the afternoon between meals or I mix them at night before bed where I drink one before hitting the sack and drink the other when I get up in the am.

Does anyone know if the protein breaks down after it is mixed or is what I am doing perfectly fine? Obviously creatine cannot be done in this matter but I have not found any evidence suggesting premixing protein is a bad idea.

ANy advice is appreciated.

if you have a fridge in which you keep them, then you would be better off taking the skim milk seperately and then mixing it into the shake at the time wen u need it

My protien shakes will separate even if I let them sit for 5 minutes. Maybe its how I make them? 10oz of 1% milk and 2 scoops of choc whey.

I use water, and always mix them when I'm ready to drink them.

Reebok actually makes a really good water bottle that holds protein powder in its own compartment at the top (that's shaped like a ball), where it is kept dry. There is a separate cold compartment for water/milk, etc that you fill from the bottom of the bottle. When you're ready to go, you just turn the top compartment to the opening, the powder falls down, shake it up, and drink. I saw it for like $8 at Target a few weeks ago.

Thanks gang. Mine seperate as well after a few minutes but I just shake tehm before drinking and they are fine. That shaker bottle from Reebok sounds cool but they don't have target in Canada. I'll check on line.

I went to a health food store yesterday and they said premixing is not a good idea as certain chemicals in whey protein do breakdown. (not harmful just no benefit) They did say a new whey protein is out now from a company called PVL called Whey Cooler. Apparently this has been made to premix with water and as long as kept cool can last for up to a week. Soem people apparently mix up a jug and just keep in the fridge. I may give it a shot as it comes in a lot of flavours. Maybe they are just trying ot make a sale.
