Importance of the stretch in lifts?

What is the importance of a good stretch when lifting? I always hear it enphasized, but i never heard WHY. examples: stretch at bottom of fly movements, at bottom of curing movements, bottom of squats and leg extentions and hacks, etc...
 
Full range of motion means that your working the muscle more, and your time under tension is normally longer when you do that too. You dont need to "stretch"...that can be bad for joints and ligaments, but you want to keep the best range of motion you can.
 
Rang of motion is the biggest reason yes. I also think it serves to decrease the amount of momentum you can use to execute the contraction, and therefore allows more isolation.
