How to destroy your calves 101.

from zero

Friday I tried something a bit different for calves. Did them seated. Through a couple plates on the thing, and tried to do 50 reps. 50 slow reps. I got there, but of course I had to rest a few times. But I did it until I reached 50. (I think ThaiBox posted this idea not too long ago, but with 70 reps. Maybe I'll try that next time :)) After that, I almost tripped walking to the water fountain. Yesterday my calves were sore as fuck. Also yesterday, I attended the Summer Sanitarium. Standing for the 2 hours Metallica played seems to have had a great effect also. When I woke up about 20 minutes ago, I almost couldn't walk down the goddamned steps. I had to take them one at a time ...

So, if you're having trouble with calves, try that 50-70 rep thing. I am certain if I continue this, they will grow.

And workout with a partner who can drive you home. In college I did this, and i drove a manual at the time. I couldn't drive safely (couldn't push the pedals with either foot) so I had to stumble back to my dorm and get my car later.

You can also employ 'staggered sets.' Do sets of 50-100 inbetween other excercises. Your calves are not used to this so it will serve to further 'shock' them into new growth.

Try doing one leg at a time. Some studies say you can excert more force if only one leg is used at a time. This will work more stabilizer muscles as well.

Do a drop set. Do 50 then drop the weight to whatever you need to, to do 50 more reps. Save this till your last set for best results.

After all that, do 50 rep sets of squats, deadlifts, hyperextension, leg press and repeat a few times. Then do a 10K run at 90% MHR on your toes till you collapse. Just kidding, ha ha,.. relax.

Recovery:
I suggest self-massage. Do the rolfing type. Take the palm of your right and grind it into your calve muscle really hard. Go in circles. Put your left have overtop to add more pressure if needed. This will also help with pain,.. and walking, lol... :)
