Do you guys train them differently than bodybuilders?
What I mean is,do you guys do a few different exercises with multiple sets per exercise, and what rep range are you guys using?
I am trying to get into powerlifting abit here,I decided to "fuck" trying to look like arny and more like a big ox. I could never get chiselled but always big,so I am thinking it is a wise choice to switch over, and the fact that deadlifts and cleans are ALOT more fun then rep after rep of fucking preacher curls.
thanks

Hey Doggie Doy, don't knock preacher curls-they are among the best movements to bring about big peaks-so don't stop doing them. I do 35-40 sets of biceps a week and average 10 sets of preacher curls too.

Also don't bother mentioning biceps on this board because these animals will maliciously rip you apart in a jealous ephedrine and kola nut induced rage of fury!!!

Hey man sup honestly people are gonna flame you, but I'll tell you one thing we don't really work biceps they have nothing to do with strength. I will tell you though everyone does train them just not as a big part of a workout. I personally do them twice a week for a total of 42 reps a week. One day tuesday I'll do a 3 sets of 8 of hammer curls and friday I'll do standing curls 3 sets of 6. One thing though for you not to forget grip is an important thing so if you think using something like a bollinger is pussy it's not although when you get to that level of a crush gripper do so incorporate on it. I plan on doing that soon myself. Grip will help with deadlifts by holding the weight.

I wouldn't say they have nothing to do with strength. Plifters just train them differently. They're not concerned with light weight isolationist excersises. I read an article by coan on his training procedures. True, he doesn't spend as much time on bi's as bb's do, but he hits them hard once or twice a week in the form of barbell or preacher curls. He usually throws them in after one of the other main core lifts, mostly in the form of standing barbell or preacher curls. Biceps play a major supporting role in alot of plifting movements.

I didn't think biceps were a main part of a powerlifters training.
I think I will train them 2 times weekly with standing barbell curls 8,6,4 reps and 3 sets dumbell curls 6,4,6 reps.
Any good?

Aren't the bi's important for stabilizing the bench press? Plus, if bi's don't need to be developed for powerlifters, why do we hear of powerlifters tearing them while doing deadlifts?

Most of the time when a powerlifter tears a Bicep it's on the side in which he has his palm facing forward. This position adds alot of stress on the bi. Usually the tear is caused because the lifter is not fully rehydrated after making weight.

That's overtraining...even from a BB perspective. JMHO

Ya know i will get flamed for this. I didnt train my bi's for almost 1 year. Then middle of last year around august i ordered a new shirt (bench) and noticed my arms had gotten a little bigger then the last time i ordered. As of now there between 19 1/4 and 19 1/2, and i have decided to break the 20 inch arm barrier. It helps me in know way, but it is a challenge. therefore i will do them until they ache when i bench (reason I stopped) or or tear one. I also started workiong forearms in Sept something i never did since thne i have put over 1/4 inch on them bring them to 15 1/2. I train the bi's and forearms the same way a body builder does. I try twice a week but lately i get in one, about 6 to 9 sets per session. I do different shit on them every single workout. You name it i do it. And they wont be for peformance just for my self. I train them light.
