Hey Do Ya'll Get Yelled At When You Drop Weights in Your Gym?

I hope I am not setting myself up for a flame but here it goes. When I am doing flat bench dumbbell presses I try and go as heavy as I can. So on the last rep I am just barely getting up. So I come back and let my arms hang a little then I drop the dumbbell from about 8 to 12 inches. We have that foam floor so it makes a loud thud. And the reason I do it is to prevent a shoulder cuff injury from letting the weight all the way down.

So anyway this gym guy comes out and yells STOP DROPPING THE WEIGHT!

Anyway so here is my question(s)

Do ya'll ever drop the weight just a little to prevent possible injuries?
Do ya'll get yelled at for doing so?
Does it really hurt the dumbbell to drop them just a little?

1) I always put the weight down with some degree of control......anything else is plain lazy IMO. You can always get a spotter to take em if you are worried about injury or where controlling the weight is difficult.

The one exception might be a olympic weightlifter.....but then they have equipment robust enough to be dropped.

2) Nope....if you treat the place and people with respect they'll learn to do the same for you.

3) It depends upon the type of db and the angle it hits the floor.....but it can do alot of damage. Alot of dumbells are just plates welded to a short bar.....its very easy to break that weld.

1) Fuck yes....
2) Shit no..
3) Hell if I know or care... I doubt it with the padding on the floor.

Anyway, there are only a few of us that go heavy enough to need to drop the DB's instead of ripping up our shoulders.
Usually I can drop them kinda easy from maybe 4-5 inches up and Bench is the only time I drop them.
I have seen dudes dropping them HARD even on curls, etc to look bad ass and that does piss me off sometimes.
I could understand thier concern if the floor wasn't padded.
What the hell is the padding for anyway? Foot comfort?
If dickhead gym guy has a problem with weights being dropped, have his ass come over and catch them for you.

Next time I'd sweep the fucker and drop it on his face.
Dumbells can be dropped safely, especially on a rubber floor.
Just make sure you drop them correctly.
Drop them the correct way up and not on their ends as doing it this way can damage them. If the owner still doesn't like it, change gyms, he isn't hardcore enough. When you train to failure there is often no option other than to drop them.

The only time I have a problem with someone
dropping db's on the floor is when they drop
them, just to draw attention to themselves.

Everybody has seen people like this, who basically
through the weights to the floor.

if the weights really heavy and you cant control the weight properly then it is probably the best idea to drop them, however there is no need to drop the dumbells after a set of curls, like some of the tits in my gym.

i work at the gym,so i know all the supervisors there and they say nothing to me cuz we are all talking and on good terms

i do drop weights to prevent injury

and i couldnt care if they break cuz my gym has enuff money to fix things ,the owners are just cheap pricks

all i hear them talk about is fixing things at the lowest cost

they better stop caring about that thoufh cuz a new gym is coming to town and they will get the business

Dropping the weight is retarded IMO. My gyms dumbells are fucked up because of this and the floor has little bumps in them that I trip in occasionally. It pisses me off. Also, the dbs are all over the place.
If you are on incline db press, and finished the movement, supinate your wrists so the dbs are parallel to your body, then bring your knee up one at a time, and place the dbs on your knees. You should swing back to sitting position like this. Takes practice to get it perfectly, but soon it will become second nature and you won't look like an attention craving pretty boy lifter.

"respect the weights and the weights will respect you"
- whoever said that.
