I have a problem. Doc says I have a compressed disc in my low back. He says it was probably from lifting heavy. He told me to lay off the squats and deads, anything that may compress my spine further. So, I have 2 questions :
1- will squats and deads really screw my back up worse
2- if yes, then what else can I do - I really need hlep w/this one !!

Get a second opinion.

Don't risk being a cripple, but I have to also so, "Sometimes you gotta play hurt"

I have serious bicep tendonitus and I just bite the bottom lip and use as much capsicain as humanly possible,

But remember, dont risk being a cripple, get another opinion, maybe a doctor who knows a littl emore about lifting.

My spine does feel a little sore the day after , but it's nothing I can't deal with. I don't know if doctors really know what they're talking about when it comes to weights.

if you are gonna see a doctor about lifting, at least see an orthopod who deals with athletes.

most athletes will develop compression in the spine. However, it is not as bad as the general doctors will make out.

you just have to learn to train around the pain or make you low back and abs stronger.

I agree with Irish...AGAIN.

I found a doc here that used to be the team doc for the NY Giants. He's young, athletic, and has always worked with athletes. He wouldn't just tell me to hang it up.

Remember, Chuck V. had two broken discs in his back and had them fused, now he's squatting over a grand.

Don't worry too much about it... I suffered from the same problem, plus I've also suffered from slipped and herniated disks.. And none of the above have kept me out of the gym... Just find a good ortho specializing in sports medicine.. I personally use Health South and they never once recommended I stop Squatting and Deads.. They specialize in getting athletes back up as quickly as possible......
