Fruit - enough is enough

people think fruits are bad because of all the sugar and how it 'Spikes" your insulin. well fruits don't spike insulin, so i dont think having a banana post workout would maek a difference then a cup of brown rice. fruits have to pass through the liver to get broken down into glucose (the bodys source of energy). so fruits arent exactly a sipmple carb, it more like a complex carb. but the nutrients and vitamins in the fruits are so beneficial. but cc, i like fresh fruit more then frozen fruit, bananasa, golden apples, cantoulopes, blueberries, theyre all good.

It would depend on the type of fruit (since fruits have different sugars with different glycemic loads) and the amount

Saying fruits in any dosage of any type wont spike insulin is wrong...

Anyway the problem with fruits isn't an insulin spike. Its the fructose which activates the uric acid pathway which can lead to fat gain. At a certain dosage , this goes beyond calories in and calories out....

Oh my - the great fruit debate. Yeah Tom...for speaking from experience.

While living in Central America I ate fruit nonstop. Morning - late in the evening. I was nice and thin and didn't worry a bit about gaining weight. With that said, I was also expending tons of calories a day. I was in constant sweat mode for 2 or 3 hours a day (dance and working out in facilities with no air conditioning or fans). Not to mention the sweating from the basic heat of the day. So you could argue that I could eat anything and my body would use it.

After getting more involved in the weight lifting world I have been drilled to cut fruit. So, of course I took it out of my diet - with an occasional slip here and there. Like cobracock, I said "wtf". If I'm in calorie deficit, within my macro's, and eat it when my body will use it - why am I doing this? I've eaten fruit my entire life. I added it back in - typically with breakfast and PWO shake. No difference. Matter of fact, I find that I don't crave junk when I eat fruit. It fills me up, makes my taste buds happy, easy to grab and go, and makes my shakes yummy. Now that I think of it, I haven't had any in a while - no wonder I am craving junk.

Saying that, if you are cutting (particularly serious cutting like contest prep) fruit is typically one to go. Simply because it is the least important at that time. Most carbs are being cut, certainly all sugars etc. The few days prior to comp you wouldn't want fruit simply because its water content.

BTW- I'm talking about real fruit - not canned. Even watch frozen to ensure additional sugars haven't been added (usually in way of high fructose corn syrup).

IMAO

I eat 3-4 servings of fruit a day and I am cut. Eating a piece of fruit definitely does kill any cravings for junk food.....for me anyways
