Fiber and carbs

When the fiber is attached to carbs, should these carbs be counted towards the total amount of carbs or only in fiber count?

For example, psyllium husk has a carb count from its fiber content, should I count these carbs in my total carbs count? Should I be subtracting my fiber totals from my carb totals period?

Thanks

From what I have understood :

Carbs : 10g
*fiber : 2g

=> net carbs = 10-2 = 8g

[Just like you have
fat : 10g
*sat : 5g

=> mon + polyunsaturated = 10-5=5g]

So at the end of the day

total carbs 30g

total fiber 22g

net carbs 8g

are these 8g net carbs all I should be concenrned about?

Net Carbs = Total Carbohydrates - fiber - sugar alcohols

Net carbs are the ones you are trying to limit

Well yah, fiber doesn't affect blood glucose...and since it's not absorbed by the body, it has no caloric value that would affect someone concerned with weight gain/loss.

I am concerned about my total carb count for CKD. The example above were my totals from a couple of days ago. Just wondering which is the number that really counts.

The 8 grams are the only ones that count - although I would count sugar alcohols (not because they affect insulin - but because they still contain calories).

yeh, net carbs count. Most places advertise the net carbs, like subway's atkins approved menu.

remember that soluble fiber is actually diggested partially. It is thought that solublr fiber yields about 2 kcal per gram as opposed to 4, so that may be something to watch out for, although they don't always tell if something has insoluble or soluble fiber. As for the rest of this net carbs bs. I really think it may be a scam. I mean are all these sugar alcohols not digested at all? I see low carb food with 20g of carbs with from sugar alcohols and 2g from fiber, which yields "0 net carbs. Is this actually true, or are sugar alcohols just a scam to make more money with this low carb craze.
