Fat Boy on a diet

I am very out of shape. So out of shape that I most likely have business being here. 99 percent of you won't be able to relate to me, because you have most likely always been active. I have not.

Not since High School, with little exception have I exercised. I go out drinking most weekends and I eat whatever. As a result, I am 6'2 and 260. For as little as I do work out, I should be worse off that I am, I am not a complete mess, but I am clearly overweight. I am 25 now and need to make some changes.

I know I won't get a gym membership because I would be embarrassed in front of others.

In the past after 4 days of light running/push ups/sit ups I slack off. Another summer comes around and I stay away from activities I used to enjoy. Before I become a lost cause and let myself down alltogther, I was hoping for some advice.

What changes can I make?

I suppose that anything would be better than nothing but where do I start?

Where do you start? Start slow............walk more, park farther away, take the stairs instead of the elevator, etc

Once you get to the point where that doesn't do anything, try aerobics at home or join a gym.....you'd be surprised at gyms like the Y -- there are some hard bodies there but the majority is regular people.

Don't let what you think they may think of you guide your actions. You don't know them so why care what they think....you're in the gym working out......

As far as diet -- and by "diet" I mean the way you eat -- start making small changes. Instead of whole milk, switch to 2% then 1% then skim......use low fat cheese then eliminate it.....use lean cuts of meats -- eat more chicken.....

If you HAVE to snack -- read the labels & after you buy the bag portion the whole bag into individual servings in Ziploc plastic bags. That way you won't mindlessly eat out of the bag. Also start considering replacements -- a serving of Goldfish crackers is 70 goldfish or you can have 12 Doritos (1 serving). It's not the greatest to eat these foods but start making small changes then eliminate them. Also add more veggies and good fats like olive oil to your diet. Also don't expect to accomplish your goals in 2 weeks or even 5 weeks -- it's a process -- remember FITNESS IS A JOURNEY NOT A DESTINATION.

Also, even tho I'm female I can relate to you!! I'm 5'4" and used to weigh 170 lbs which is a lot for a woman my height. I also never exercised -- ever!! I'm STILL making changes & trying to figure things out & I started small, etc about 6 years ago.

Good luck!!

I seem to be repeating this story alot..

I was the same way man (I'm 25) and about 1 1/2 years ago I was 190lb (5'6) so I was definitely a fat ass. The easiest way for you to get back to normal is to do light to moderate excercise (walking, running, don't need a gym for that) and go LC.. I did atkins, I dropped close to 35lbs in like 12-14 weeks, and that was a good start.. then I started the lifting, and trying to eat decent.. unfortunately the eating decent part gave way to pizza hut and bs like that so I gained about 10-15 of it back, then started it all over again.. Since I started lifting though (and hanging out here) I've really been on track with the diet and excercising, so I guess just hang around here, that should give you some motivation.. take some pictures of yourself right now too, so you can see the improvements when they happen. It sucks bro, but if you want it bad enough, you can do it. Hang in there, and if you've got questions, you know where to come.

you'd be suprised. a good deal of people here used to be much fatter than they are now. Even teh women with their bare asses in their avatars used to be around 32% bf at one point.

I dont think a radical diet change like taking up CKD overnight will really work for you. You'd need to slowly incorporate change.

Also take alot of days off when doing cardio. right now i follow a 2 day on, 1 day off pattern so that i dont burn out and have enough time to physically recover.

You should also look into supplements. 3-4 servings of dairy, green tea, chromium, and things like that should help you lose more weight than you would w/o them. dietary changes like higher protein, lower GI carbs and higher fiber will help too.

if you start eating healthier (but not radically different), start taking a few supplements and start exercising you should lose some weight, maybe 30 lbs.

Thanks you guys for input. I am going to make changes in my diet. I really don't eat all that bad. I just sit on my ass alot and have done so for a long time. All I really want to lose is 30. That would be perfect. And I am going to start running and I just bought a new mountain bike. 2 on one off sounds good to me. I just need to keep at it. That will be the hard part.

I wish you lots of luck! I am looking to make changes in my diet also. Please post results when you get there!

I was 25, 6'2" 290+.....all body fat. Big drinker and eater.Down to 220 now...with some sweet muscle gains. I relate. Go to the gym now. There's fat people, old people, and the people in good shape. It's motivation to see the pretty people strut around. I hope you make your goals.
