effects from coming off low carb?

I recently lost 30 pounds by eating very low carb and exercising about 4-5 days a week. I was doing 2 days upper body weight lifting and 2 days lower body and then about 30 minutes on the elliptical machine. If I had free time a 5th day, I added in another 30 minute elliptical session. I'm currently reading through your posts and trying to formulate a good 4 day split workout to see shed a little more fat, feel stronger and bring out some muscle.

My diet was eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch and chicken & grilled veggies for dinner. I've been thinking about upping my carbs in the way of protein shakes and oatmeal and such to make my weight loss more maintainable and give me variation from my old diet i'm growing bored with.

I'm wondering if anyone here has come off a diet similar to mine and was able to successfully switch over to whole grains, oatmeal, protein shakes, etc and not gain a lot of weight from it.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Congrats on your "losses"! I"d suggest that you ease very slowly back into carbs. Check out some of the stuff from AF Store (anabolicfitness.net) like Glucorell & Sesamax to help this. As you're finding a low-to-no carb diet is not a healthy lifestyle. It may get you to a certain level but it just isn't a healthy state to maintain for extended periods of time.

I"m also going to bump for Ulter for some suggestions on supps to help ease back in.

You can also increase your quality fat intake. I follow a high protein, low carb, moderate fat diet. Your body uses quality fats in place of carbs.
Keep in mind you NEED carbs for brain function. That little head ache you get when you are super low carb is your body eating away at your brain for energy!!!

I'm doing just that...right at this moment! I've added oatmeal - in the form of homemade protein bars (ms24k recipe) fruit, whole grains and low GI carbs to my diet in the last 3-4 weeks. I feel much better and the fat is still coming off. It CAN be done. I have always been a "bloater" from carbs, but I've found - for me - if I keep them around 80-100 a day, I'm fine.
