Does leg press lifting for a couple of inches count?

A guy at our gym was acting like a supercool guy because he lifted on the leg press 400 kgs of weight (like 800-900 lbs), but he barely bend his legs - it was just a tiny movement for a couple of inches - does it even count?

The most important thing is to keep a proper form, even if it has to be done with lower weight. Personally, I think that doing excessive weight just for the sake of the weight and not proper form is completely unprofessional, especially on behalf of a trainer. First of all, there is a higher chance of getting an injury by taking more weight than you can handle with proper form. Secondly, it is pointless, since you are not stretching your muscles, and there is no real breakdown leading to hypertrophy.

No. He is not training with a full range of motion and is not fully stimulating the muscle. He is ego lifting. It is very easy to get hurt lifting weights the way he is. I don't recommend it at all.

That means nothing and will do nothing for him. You want to train with the right weight that you are able to do the exercise with full range of motion and reach absolute failure in your desired rep range.

Its not a squat/bench/deadlift, so there is really no idea of whether it counts or not.

Of course, the bigger ROM, the better muscle development, but for some people (in this case myself as well) the flexibility does not allow that
