Do you have to weight train before cardio? Does it matter when?

Does it make that much of a difference when you lift and when you do cardio. Before, After, does it matter. Isnt it more important to just too do it?

And I know they say to lift first and do your cadio after.

I suggest weights first. Reason being, you want to be the most productive you can be when weight training, and you will do that best when you are fueled, and have enough ATP to do the work. If you do weights first, by the time you're done, you'll be better positioned to tap into the fat faster doing cardio...and you don't have to sacrafice the quality of your weight training session to do it.

I suggest splitting them into two different sessions. As spatts said, doing cardio first will deplete muscle glycogen, thus making your workouts less effective. Doing cardio afterwards tends to be very catabolic. Either scenario has the potential to reduce gains in lbm while attempting to do so, or cause a loss of lbm in some cases. Do them during seperate sessions, preferable with at least one solid meal and a nap in between.

Thanks bignate. He answered your question BuF. Read what I typed. When cutting I do a weight training session AND a cardio session 6 days a week. It all depends on your current goals though.

For example, doing cardio in the morning and lifting in the evening. Same day, but quite a bit of time inbetween the sessions. This is my favorite thing to do....works great. I can do my cardio on an empty stomach and my weights fully fueled and hydrated.

Daisy: How long are your morning cardio sessions if you don't mind my asking? HIIT or steady state?

My morning cardio is steady state, 45-60 min, usually 6x/week. I save HIIT for the evenings. I cannot do a good HIIT session when I am not hydrated. I can do it on am empty stomach, but not dehydrated. I'll do a HIIT workout about 2x/week, on the evenings I don't lift.

I tend to do more cardio than most normal people. I actually don't mind it. :)
