Dad gets probation for making kid walk home

We've had a few cases up here lately where parents have been charged for leaving their little kids in the cars while they run into whatever stores (usually Walmart or Target lol). Weather can be so extreme up here and often they are little kids, like under two. You would think that would be common sense but ....it keeps happening!

I was wondering about this too. Who reported it in the first place for it to even get to the stage of dad being charged and ending up in court. It was interesting the judge's comment was that it was "old fashioned" punishment too. So is she trying to set a precedent and make a point since it got to that stage?

You wonder, too, if the dad just dropped him off and left him or did he follow along behind. For me, 8 is really borderline too. A lot would depend on the neighborhood and the maturity of the child but it's iffy. I can't help but wonder if there's a history with the family and authorities are using this to send a message.

The dad dropped him off and left him on the side of the road to walk home. A woman saw the kid crying on the side of the road and picked him up. She took him back to school and called the police. The dad drove home and dropped the rest of the kids off and came back and the kid was gone.

8 years old is way too young. This shouldn't even be a debate...I'm so mad right now you don't even understand

Aahhhhh ya I can see how this is where it is. It's too much. And in this day and age..he's lucky a woman picked his boy up and not some creep.

I want to say the lady and the judge should've minded their own damn business but it was pretty damn stupid to drop the kid off on a 50mph road

Dependency? On the state? Curious what that means?

Means a child has been adjudicated dependent. Which itself means that the court has jurisdiction and supervision over a child due to a parent commiting a form of abuse (lack supervision, neglect, physical, mental injury, etc). It can be a child in foster care with a relative/non relative or even still in home with the parents.

i didn't read any comments in here, but anyone that thinks it's okay for an 8 year old kid to walk home alone is a fucking moron.

I don't give a shit if you did it when you were a kid. This isn't 1980 anymore, and you're a terrible fucking parent if you do and should have your kids taken away.
