Carb Addicts book....WTF?!?!?!

Okay,
Could this work, a woman I work with is doing it for the 3rd or 4th time.....mmmmhmmm.
She says this book says ALL carbs turn to sugar and they are bad. You go on this diet and can have like 5-10 carbs a day and for one hour out of that day you can eat whatever you want during that hour. Tonight she is having cheese burgers & beer. Oh and she doesn't excercise.

Then she got all pissy when I said not all carbs will make you crave more carbs. Her response, "well not all people take in carbs the same".

Watcha all think?

I think horsepucky :D

While carbs do convert to "sugar" (in the form of glucose), ALL carbs are NOT "bad". Glucose is used by our bodies to fuel our brain and our muscles (stored as glycogen). Only an excess of carbs is bad, because it gets stored as fat. People who exercise need carbs, because their muscles are constantly burning up their stored glycogen.

..."well not all people take in carbs the same"...
True - people who are sedentary and therefore don't need to replenish muscle glycogen stores will see more of their carb intake stored as fat. And because the majority of the modern population is sedentary and eats a diet containing too many high-processed foods (which are usually a deadly combination of simple (sweet &/or white) carbs and trans-fats, they want a scapegoat - hence the whole "carbs are bad" rumor.

This rumor gets further reinforced by the initial positive results many people have on low carb diets. The true test will be how long they can maintain, which for most people isn't very long since the diet is so restrictive. Rebound from these diets can be a real bitch.

I'd rather eat my carbs and exercise.

Thanks, FitFossil-
That is exactly the response I was hoping for! I agree. Sometimes I just get so stunned from what I hear come out of people's mouth I just can't say anything....my chin is on the floor!
