Canned Veggies

I've been using canned veggies with some of my meals, they state "No Added Salt."

Opinions on canned veggies?

They are fine. Only thing is they are porlly not organic other than that the nutrient content should be almost the same if not jsut the same. Vegies are vegies. only thing added would be a preservative if that bothers you.

Yep I keep at least 4 to 5 cans at my desk cause they dont go bad and dont need to be refridgerated.

works for some quick good carbs and vits

If it's low sodium, then it should be fine. However, frozen will provide more nutrients. A lot of the nutrients in vegetables goes into the water when you boil them, which is why you should steam or microwave them. As much as 40% of nutrients are lost to the water. The same is true when they are stored in water in a can for a prolonged period of time.

If you have the freezer space, I say buy frozen. Frozen is actually more nutritious than fresh vegetables because they are usually picked at their most ripe point, whereas fresh vegetables are picked early and aren't allowed to ripen on the plant prior to shipping to the store.

They aren't as good as fresh veggies but will still be good for you. Go ahead, just stay away from most canned fruits, as a lot of them have a lot of sugar and preservatives in them.

It is better than no veggies.

I have a hard time with anything canned except beans.

That is more of a personal adversion though.

My freezer is stocked with frozen veg, mostly for quick emergency use as I use mostly fresh veg.

Frozen veggies can actually be better than fresh they are flash frozen immediately , unlike fresh veggies who knows how long they have been sitting out.

pretty much 99% of my veggies come from canned green beans or mixed frozen. quick and easy to fix. if i eat "raw" veggies it tears my stomach up something terrible.
