Ok, I am at the end of the 3rd week of my training/diet and I am loving it. I gained 1/2 an inch in my biceps already and feel overall better, but there is one thing bothering me - I gained 5lbs but my bf calculations (3 fold) say I lost 1-2% bf. I gained an inch around my waist, I feel fatter, how could I have gained 5lbs and lost 2%bf in just 3 weeks? I'm eatting a 45-35-25 diet with about 2700 calories (300-400 above maintance). My workouts last 30-45 minutes but are pretty intense. I jog probably 2 or 3 miles a week and do little cardio besides that - I don't see how I could have lost any bf.

tricky one but i reckon that if, just for example, before u started you were 200lb at 10% body fat ie 180lb lean mass, 20lb fat and u put on 10lb of muscle and no fat then you would then be 210lb but your lean mass would then be 190lb out of 210lb which is approx 90.5% which would mean your bodyfat would now be 9.5% so would have in fact decreased. i dunno if this is the case here but its interesting

crasher has a good point but these freakin online shit is such bullshit...they tell me i need like 1500 calories to maintain, if i ate that for one week i would wither away...

peace

get a good pair of calapers and use the 9 point scale...it is accurate as hell..
thigh, calve, kidney, love handle, ab, tricep, bicep, chest, and back...now add them up / by your bodyweight so the number.
65mm skin folds/190lbs =0.34
now take that number and multiply it by 0.27
0.34 x 0.27 = 0.0918 or 9.2% (rounded)

This is very accurate and is what they use at the arnold's classic and many other places for bodybuilders, not normal people...

BTW are you on gear? 1/2 inch on the arms in 3 weeks is amazing...they say you need to gain 10lbs of lbm to increase your lean arm mass by 1 inch.... so you have gained 5 lbs of LBM...NICE JOB!!
