Bad eating habits

I am 19 and in college. So far, I have avoided the freshman 15, but lately (since late February) I have been binge eating sometimes 2 times a week. I am underweight at 6'0 and 150, but i can't stop eating junkfood (esp. icecream and fried chicken). I have put on 5 pounds since then, and haven't been working out since I have been ill and spring break. I have made an appointment to talk to a counselor ( I feel it is partly related to stresses from my classes), but I fear I have a pyschological disorder with food. I just wondered if you had any thoughts about how to quit thinking about food and quit bingeing. I seem to be ok until I have one junk food and then I am like "Well, might as well seriously screw up the diet today." Only it no longer ends after one day. Help, please.

It's all in your head, dude. There's no cure for it, you just have to keep yourself from doing it. And if you are going to eat something like ice cream, keep it to a small serving just to ease the craving.

I believe what you are looking for is willpower

or possibly motivation?

This board will help give you both.

Don't listen to them. Half the diet board here has at least one eating disorder (binge eating can we say? oh no, I forgot it's to speed up metabolism :o ). Heed your own conception of what's good and right for you - don't substitute food as a cure for stress.
It's a good thing you're actually taking an active stance to remedy a situation with a counselor. Sort out your problems related to the potential sources of stress, and I believe you will no longer need to 'mask' it by satisfying synchronic desires for taste (taste is transient, fat and consequences are less so). But in case the habit doesn't go away counseling is one option; also try to stay active - opt for doing something you enjoy (hobby, sports, etc) instead of food, and it will also relive the strain of stress.

Peace :martini:

what juve said and...

when you do binge eat (i dont think its THAT bad if you do it correctly)... do it with good foods... chicken, tuna, eggs... and do it sometime after lifting....

ive been doing this for a while (binging within reason, 800-1500cal) and ive actually lost fat and put on muscle... and my genetics are sub-sub-par...

This is actually very true.........how many f-ing posts have been made in the last 2 weeks asking "IS IT OK TO CHEAT" or "1 CHEAT DAY, OR ONE CHEAT MEAL)....just get your diet together and don't manipulate it.........life's much easier not having to worry about food on top of everything else.....esp. college.........
