Did my first session in a REAL gym again this morning. I have had virtually no equipment to work out with since Aug 30 when we moved. (I know, I know, how did I stand it?) The place required a physical exam before joining....and of course I had to wait 2 months for an appt as a new patient in order to do this.
The place has its pros and cons....Cons: no cables whatsoever, which I can live without; nothing for calves; don't like the leg press they have; hours seem very restricted when compared with my last gym. Got a ton of catty looks from the women, which I am NOT used to (actually I'm not really used to other women in the gym, period!) Pros: CHEAP-ass membership ($50/year); brand new, great quality equipment; a pool....did I mention how cheap?
So I'm feeling pretty pumped. They require you to complete an orientation training session, which the guy mercifully abbreviated for me, and I got down to business as soon as he shut up As I was leaving, he said "Anyone who heads right for the squat rack is alright in my book." He also told me the are holding a member PL meet next weekend, but that's definitely NOT enough time for me to get used to feeling heavy weights again--I haven't been able to use more than 125 for squats all this time due to lack of a rack, and most of the time, no spotter. I look forward to catching the next one though.
Just so damn happy today.
