Many of the guys will admit that they at least partially weight train to look good to the opposite sex....of course this is now the "I am woman, hear me roar!" age so it may or may something you ladies would admit to, but now you can anonymously in my poll. =) Its really a question of curiosity for myself btw

None of the above.

I workout because I go insane if I don't - I mean, uh, MORE insane! It's primarily for my mental health (the stress relief & because I truely LOVE it), second for looks & lastly for health.

I don't know why I train. I just try to feed the animal inside of me.

B True

I train because I fuckin love it. I'm not coordinated enough to be graceful (like in aerobics...LOL!) so the power moves work well for me. Plus I'm good at it and its SUCH a stress relief for me and I'm most comfortable in that environment. I like to see the improvements in my lifts or whatever as well. My body responds well to lifting.

Secondly I do it because of health reasons -- the studies I've seen about the increases in muscle and bone mass in sedentary old people in nursing homes after lifting soup cans for a while has me convinced of the benefits of resistance training.

And at about the same level of importance is how I look. I've always had the extra 10 lbs on me so its a dream of mine to get rid of it. And god knows I'm not getting any younger so its not going to be easier to get rid of.

And finally I just want to be a healthy oldster when I get there. I don't want a shitty quality of life because I hit 50 and I can't walk very far any more. I want to be fuckin doin squats when i'm 70 and riding a Harley wearing leathers & listening to old heavy metal. I'm gonna need some strength in order to just be able to sit up by myself and not drool at that age :)

I'm with you. I have seen what aging does to people and it's not always pretty! I used to work out more for looks and to attract the opposite sex but now its more for health reasons and to get out some aggression and to let my competitive edge come out when I am outlifting every girl in the gym! Not that anyone else
CARES what I lift but it sure is fun for me! It's fun to step on stage and let it all shine every once in a while too.

Sorry Frackal but I cannot pick one category in your pole unless you create a new one that just says "Because I am fuckin crazy!" hehehe

So I can hang out at Elite and make arbitrary, trolling type posts to piss people off.

No, really, because it gives me a huge thrill to be in control of the way my body looks and feels. I like being strong and big. I don't want a hip fracture from tripping over the rug when I'm 60. Because I need a healthy channel for my obsessive nature. And because, BECAUSE of my obsessive nature, I seem to be reasonably good at it, and it's always nice when one finds something one is good at, isn't it? :D

1. Vanity - I love muscle and I love watching my body change for the better.
2. Mental health - if I don't do cardio I get stressed out. If I don't lift I have a short temper.

All of the above! I train for health, looks, strength, and while I don't compete in actual competitions, I do enjoy competing with myself.

I train because it's fun. To some, the gym is like a torture chamber. To me, it's like a giant playground. Training makes me feel like a kid. (To tell the truth, I feel even better than when I was younger!)

I'm training for old age too. Our bodies are finely tuned machines meant to work and move, not rust and rot. I want to be a wild crazy old lady. I want to die LIVING (like maybe out skydiving), not live DYING (stuck in a nursing home).

And finally, I train because I can. And because I can, I feel I should. I've got just one body on loan for this lifetime, so I better take care of it. I gotta wear it and live in it every day! :mix:

I first started when I was 14 because I wanted to do some strength and weight training for softball and volleyball. I do it now because I enjoy it. You have to do it for yourself and for anyone else.

1. Athletic Performance

2. Health

3. Stress and frustration relief(Works like a charm..LOL)

4. Vanity

Fonz

I used to do it because:

1. I wanted to be stronger and I was addicted to the way it FELT.

2. I LOVED the way it looked.

3. I dabbled in competition.

Now I do it to keep my ass from hitting the ground. :bikinimom

1) Health
2) Best form of stress release.
3) Love reaching MY personal goals set
4) I'm a vain bitch

MOST IMPORTANT: Providing/teaching a healthy example of fitness for my daughter!!!!!!

Wow...

I wish I could say all of that....

I started for my health...I was fat. (am still working on that):bawling:

Now I'm sortof becoming addicted. The better I look the more I want to do it. So I guess its sort of vain....

and I want to look good next to my guy...;)

We

I've started training because I like 'me'... and I want to be the best damn 'me' I can be!

This hasn't always been the case, in fact for most of my 29 years I've been uncomfortable being me, and have hidden it behind my obesity.

But the last few months I have felt this surge of power and self confidence. I decided I don't want to get to 80 and regret having hidden myself away from life behind a body of fat.. I want to get to 80 and think " Fuck me!! Is there anything I haven't done?"

I want to go hand-gliding, scuba diving, parachuting etc.. I want to start up my own company like I have always dreamed, I want to be able to live on a plantation island....I just want no limitations.

I don't know why this paradigm shift has come over me, but in April this year I weighed 370ls.. and now I'm down to 320lb.. and I'm still going!

I come from a country in the South Pacific, and the way I'm going, I have half a mind to run for Prime Minister and show the boys how business should be taken care of....

Anyways... thanks for the soap box... ummm... you can have it back now..... hehe....

Cheers
W.

1) So I can use less soap in the shower
2) Less fluff makes it easier to shave all my parts
3) Tight butts are yummy, I want one
4) total vanity

and yeah the health benefits. Thought I would stop lurking.

Because I love when people say "You're how old"! and because I look better than most people my age. Because I like the way I look in certain clothes; and definately for health reasons. The older you get the more crap your body goes through - At 52 I haven't gone through one bodily change - and hope not to for a long time.

1: To look good
2: I'm addicted and can't stop
3: I'll probably live longer (hopefully)
4: It's something i can do for me, that is just for ME!!:D

Where's the choice

* To attract the same sex??? cum on... Me and my b/f has to have some fun:devil:

ummm...YES! The big knockers will come later...but until then, I'd love to be a lean-mean-sexy-machine! Yaay for the fun we'll have!!;)

Ummmm, yeah, what about attracting the same sex option???

But that's not why I do it. For me it is mostly to maintain health, strength and overall fitness. Moss can't grow on a rolling stone.

Ranger, you are a true ARTISTE.

I'll admit when I first started working out, I did it in order to look more attractive and get toned. However, it kinda progressed into more. When I would go train, I could let out frustration and stress, which I definitely needed to do. And when I started seeing results, I think I began training more for myself than anyone else. However, due to my damn school schedule, work schedule, and all the other shit I do, I haven't been to the gym in almost a month, and it shows physically as well as mentally. :(

Because I can

Because other women my age can't

Because it makes me feel like such an animal

Because it improves my mood

Because it keeps me young

Because the alternative sucks

I do it for me.-valerie

Ah MS, you do me an unearned justice....Just for you Buttercup:

Women Of Iron

Some house's try to hide the truth,
that Women of Iron dwell in there.
Our house's show it openly,
the signs are everywhere.

We know sacrifice, and feel the pain,
sometimes we don't know one, from the other.
We've always been in the Game of Iron,
but first, we're housewives and mother's.

In the gym, we find our freedom,
they are special times you know.
At night we lay and wonder,
just where did all that time go?

They look upon us differently,
and even Iron Brother's sometimes do.
Yet, we have to be warm and understanding,
and have a wonderful gentlness too!

We've answered for all our mistakes,
no matter how big or small.
We divide our time between the gym and family,
but, family is placed above it all.

We never asked for compassion,
to make our pain fall away.
Maybe a smile, and a kind word,
a compliment, just one...someday!

We try to share our wisdom,
and give insight into a woman's skill.
In return, we get smirks and stares,
and answers that make us ill!

Faced our trials and tribulations,
fought our battles of love.
Through it all, we found our strength,
from the Iron God up above!

We hate all mirror's, can't pass them by,
and still not believing the sight.
Walked away with tears in our eyes,
and lay awake wondering each night.

We accept the thought of lonliness,
in your eyes, should we ever fail.
We have never denied we are different,
for the Iron God made us...FEMALES!!!!

Ah what the Hell, one for the guys who lurk the Ladies Board....:

Gods of Thunder

The Iron Brother stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to be.
He hoped his hands were callused enough,
So his spirit may be set free.

" Step to the Iron Throne, Brother,
How shall I deal with you?"
" Have you bled Iron daily,
To this throne have you been true?"

I give homage to this Iron Throne,
And at times my talk was tough.
Sometimes I've been violent,
Cause this life is fuck'in rough.

Yea, I never scammed a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep.
I pounded Iron through overtime,
When the gains came to steep.

I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times, I shook with fear.
And sometimes Iron God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I do not belong in this place,
Among the people down here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.

If you've a place for me here, Iron God,
It needn't be so grand.
I won't expect you to spot too much,
And if you don't, I'll understand.

There was silence around the Iron Bar Throne,
Where Iron Brothers had often trod.
As the Brother waited quietly,
For the judgement of his Iron God.

You do not belong down there,
With those who stare in wonder.
Your place is here, Brother,
Among the Gods of Thunder.

Step forward now, Brother,
You've lifted your burdens well.
Lift peacefully with your Iron Brothers,
You've done your time in HELL !!!

THE CREATION

The Iron God did look upon the world,
With the common one's weak of mind.
He spake unto his Iron Disciples,
Saying, " I'll make a Brother of a different kind!"

For three days the Iron God labored,
The Disciples begged, " Finish it tomorrow!"
The Iron God did not reply,
For the world was in such sad sorrow.

The seventh day Iron God stood proud,
Iron Disciples did gather round.
They stood in awe of the Brother before them,
Yet, he did not utter a sound.

" Does he speak?" The Disciples asked.
Curiosity wrinkled upon their brow.
" He does not speak any words of mouth,
Though his gains doth speak out loud!"

" Behind those massive pec's,
Is what separates him from you.
Deep beneath the blood and gristle,
Is a Heart of Iron…Beating true!"

" Those Bicep peaks, and wide thick Tri's,
I made from a likeness of me.
Grab the tape, my Iron Disciples,
For they measure a cold, hard 23!"

"Admire the Squat thickened legs,
Most will turn away in distaste.
But, this body with no foundation,
Is just a body…waiting to waste!"

" Those forearms, bulging and tapered,
With veins rising to greet the skin.
Anything less than this perfection,
And I would start all over again!"

" And gaze in wild wonder, upon those lat's,
Spread out, so thick, and wide.
That " V " shape there before you,
Down there he won't be able to hide!"

" This is the first of many,
Who will fight for their place down there.
Anything aside the Iron Bar Throne,
Will cross his mind without a care!"

" This Iron Brother shall walk unequal,
All different…yet each one the same.
They will pass from the shadows silently,
Just nobody's…with no names!"

" They'll preach our Gospel, from the Throne,
Few will listen unto his words.
Blood of the palms, and the screams of pain,
Upon deaf ears…shall go unheard!"

An Iron Disciple moved forward,
Then stepped back, hiding his fear.
For upon that chiseled cheek,
Sat a single…golden tear.

" He hath sprung a leak!" Muttered one.
As they all continued to stare.
The Iron God shook his massive head,
And whispered, " I did not put that there."

" Step forward and gaze upon this face,
And remember this golden tear.
For it is the ultimate reminder,
It's "WE" Down there they fear!"

" That tear is a final testament,
To the sleepless nights, filled with pain.
And the Grunts through the chalk filled mists,
That will hide his hard fought gains!"

" That tear is our conviction,
To shoulder our burdens well.
Earning the right to the Iron God World,
He will first, lift his days through Hell!"

I lied....I was feeling a bit motivated....heh heh heh

We all want to be more attractive to the opposite (or same) sex

We all want to be/stay in a good health

and most of us like to impress, either other people or just ourselves

I like looking better than everyone else
Stress relief
Makes me feel amazing
I rarely get sick when I'm in shape
And to live a longer, healthier life

I train because I do track'n field, the field part: throwing events. They require some strength.
Because I want to see my limits and push them a little farther. I'm a peculiar thing at my gym, because few women or girls lift heavy weights with a goal for more strength. I'm already 42 and still trying to get stronger.
Because of health. They diagnosed articular rheumatism. Luckily, I didn't have to be pushed to the gym. In fact, the therapist I visited tried to talk me out of heavy weights, but I mostly ignore those advice. I go heavy as long as my body stays in one piece. Of course I don't train if I feel rheumatic pain. But I never had since I started taking that medicine.

I think the health benefits are tied with the strength benefits (which weren't actually included in the poll).
Then comes looking hot. I think that's pretty cool. So does Majutsu. And the increased libido is fun, too!
I haven't competed yet, but Maj wants me to compete with him in a contest in the spring. I have to say, though, that the thought of getting up in front of a bunch of people all slicked up in a bikini freaks me out just a tad...

Doing it so I don't miss out on my children's lives.......hate being fat and overweight, and I want to be there when my boys get married, graduate college etc......My boys are still young so I figure I have time to get into better shape and to see them live their lives.....

I workout because it has changed my life started out a size 15 last march now a size 2-3 and 11% Body Fat. And am becoming a BCRPA Certified Personal Trainer.. I live for working out, I love it ...

Joe's Girl
Keep Pumping :)

I work out so that :
1. I feel good physically and mentally (an overall sense of well-being)
2. I have more incentive to eat healthily
3. I stay looking young, attractive.
4. I remain appealing to my fiance.

I just love working out...it's my job anyway (aerobics instructor & personal trainer) :)

that 4th option should be further developed into a fifth option in my case...

I workout simply because I enjoy it...and am not concerned with how I look to the opposite sex...but to attract the same sex [/I]

but yeah, i get really cranky if i miss a workout..i guess im addicted. i love lifting weights and in the beginning when i was a fatty i did it for the mental side of things..now im a freak i wanna keep it that way! and chicks dig muscle on other chicks!

I workout to feel good about myself.. It makes me feel healthy and active, and always gives my mood a big boost.. Im not so concerned about what guys think of me, thats just an groovey side effect ;)

I work out because I enjoy it, makes me feel good, makes me look good, relieves my stress, and I want to compete 1 day.

Where did you find this? I have a feeling you updated this for a reason. I don't know why, I just have a feeling.

Anyway, I workout because I enjoy it, makes me feel good and relieves a lot of stress. I definitely don't workout and eat the way I do now to attract the opposite sex. Unfortunately, I did the yo-yo dieting and other extreme (and stupid) methods for that reason. Needless to say, I'm a lot more happy and healthier because of this lifestyle.

hmmm look at the date when I posted that, that was back in Oct, I didn't bump that thread. Can 1 of the mods explain how come it was bumped?

Oh, your right. I just noticed that. Maybe a new vote bumped it up.

Oh maybe that's what bumped it.

It's kinda ironic that this thread was bumped, with where I am right on, and with what I had posted back in Oct.

I think the new votes bump it... this poll bothers me ..... and Im going to leave it at that

It all about the sex. I always worked out for "health reasons" and because it's just a part of the culture in the place I live. But I didn't start hitting the weights so hard until I realised that the more iron I pump, the more HE can't keep his hands off me. And vice versa. I'm sure our priorities on the subject will change as time goes on and if we ever start a family. But right now, when we catch eachother's eye in the weight room it's like a zap of electricity and we can't wait to get home, if you catch my drift. ;)

I'm up and theres nuthing else to do..

The gym i go to is also full of meat heads.. if i dont go then.. and go a bit later.. i won't get to work out.. they will yap at u

Oh I hear ya.... My remedy for people who want to talk to me while I train, is an mp3 player and don't f*ck with me look on my face. lol It seems to be working for me ;)

Hey you live in Toronto, where can I get some good shoe shopping done? I'm going down this saturday.

depends what kinda shoes your looking for.. i have gone looking lately and honeslty.. there aint nothing!!!

I chose the "to look more attractive to opposite sex" Plus I just plain hate having this fat belly and legs. It's hard being a shorty...there's no place for the weight to go. Plus my hubby is always in "the mood" and I am "never" in "the mood" I think alot of that is because I feel insecure and plus he hasn't an oz of fat on his body. He looks great!!! But he is also considerably younger than I too. :p I would like for things to be a little better in that dept. and I definitely think me being in shape will make ALL the difference in the world. I am a very prideful person and have always been very particular about how I look. But very lazy with the diet and it has affected other areas of my life. Time to straighten up :velvett:
You guys will help me do that i"m sure!!!!!! ;)

I'm looking for gold strappy sandels, with a high heel :verygood:

Terrible I can't find any nice ones here either, I was thinking maybe I would find some in T.O. plus I got some time to kill while I'm there, just going for the day, so I thought what better way to kill time than to shoe shop ;)

Well my answer is not on the list...
I enjoy working out but I think you have to reevaluate your goals often to make exrcise stimulating so you will keep it a part of your life.
My current goal of working out is to become a fitness model one day....
Secondly it would be for health, attractiveness to the opposite sex, and every other aspect that comes with it.
People get so roped up into working out for the moment, or a big trip... When really they should be making it a life changing event... Not a spur of the moment fad.
I get irrate when people say they are fat yet they do nothing about it... or they decide that they will run on a treadmill for 30 minutes a day to lose 'fat'. Then they compare themselves to me saying well I do more cardio I should be less fat then you...
People are so ignorant with the whole food, working out, and what healthy really means. Thanks America!

For my health.
For my looks.
For my peace of mind.
For my social existence.
For not growing old and having my body fall apart around me.
For my re-entry to competition :)

A combination of things really.

-Overall Improvement in appearance
-Improved self-esteem
-Reduced Stress Level
-Improved health
-Its just damn fun
-etc.
