Airbrush Spray Tanning for Competition

I have been looking into buying a spray tanning machine for my competitions this fall. I know that the pros use the jan tana, but the mini machine is $600. I was wondering if anyone knows anywhere else to get a good machine for a better price. Also what experience did you have with it and did you use the jan tan color in it?

Thanks

I train competitors and fitness/figure models for a living. I would stay FAR away from Jan Tana. I've had nothing but bad experiences with clients getting bad sprays and coming out all blotchy... Once you're sprayed, it cannot be fixed...

Stick with Pro-tan, it's messy... but it always works. I like my girls to use many many coats of pro-tan over a few days. The morning of the show/shoot do a quick shower then apply body butter.

If you want even darker I'd top it off with Dream Tan #2. I like this look for the guy bodybuilders but find it covers up some of the subtle muscle bellies that the females have. If you pro-tanned enough you won't need the dream tan.... Don't do shoots with Dream Tan, just for shows... If you're figure it comes off on the suits, so it's not always ideal when you're doing so many changes.

Thanks, I have used the protan before and the jan tana before. I had a weird reaction with the jan tana, but it is a newer formula now and I have seen the color and it is beautiful. i know a ifbb pro girl and she said everyone gets the spray tan from jan tana.

My main reason is that I want to shower sat morning, then have 2-3 coats sprayed on me. I want to wash my hair so it will not be limp and gross :) I like the color of pro tan but I hate not showing for 3 days.

Here's the difference between pro's using Jan Tana and amateurs... Pro's are airbrushed 20 mins before they hit the stage, so there is no smudge time or PH skin problems. Not often do they have or allow spray booths at amateur shows.

You can shower all week with pro-tan... For a sat show, I'd paint every night starting weds (2-3 coats) and shower it off in the morning. By Saturday you'll be dark with no streaks... the Body butter is all you need after that.

So you start painting on wed? 2-3 coats each day? wed, thurs, fri.
When is your last shower? Friday or Saturday?

It would be better to find a airbrush system and put the protan in, it takes so long to paint with protan.

Go ahead and shower Saturday morning, but make it a quick one... I can completely tan my gf in 2 mins using pro tan and a sponge. It takes forever with those crappy brushes they give you.

Just remember, since you're showering it off you don't need for it to go on perfect. If there is streaking it'll shower off in the morning. You're dyeing the skin, not painting it...

We just did a Photoshoot with David Ford who has shot with Jen Hendershot, Monica Brant, and other big fitness/figure names. He told us that this was one of the best tans he's ever worked with.

I stand by this method :P

Thanks, since this is the best financially LOL I will most likely go with this :)

SO you do 3 coats wed, 3 coats, thurs, and 3 coats fri?
Do you do any on saturday after your shower?

wed 2-3 coats sleep with it on
thursday morning shower, then later 2-3 coats sleep with that
fri shower in morning then 2-3 coats sleep with it
sat quick shower? Is this correct?

That's the way I'd go...

You never want to use protan without showering off the excess. It's a skin dye, not a paint... During a show I'm sure you've seen guys/girls dripping brown sweat... Those are the people who havn't showered off the excess. Again, if you require darker tanning apply Dream Tan #2 the day of the show... I personally don't like the look on fit/figure competitors as it hides subtle definition.

Not need to apply any after your last shower, it'll just streak...

Sessa, go to the JanTana website; you can purchase the airbrush machine directly from JanTana for less tahn $600.00. I personally use the JanTana natural tan, and I love their product. As far as I am concerned the Jan Tana indoor tanning and airbrsuh tanning is the best on the market. The product does not tuen my skin an orange color.
