Finally someone gave me a reason to register so I can post. I got a $25 pair of dress shoes at payless and added a 1/4" lift for $15. The difference between the front and heel of the shoe is about 3/4". You can't get a huge lift because the shoe will pinch your foot, they aren't designed to have a huge heel. They're suprisingly comfortable (I have Dr Scholl inserts too) and have little to no sideways wobble that my old turf-shoes did. You get wierd looks, but if people in my college's gym were less concerned with fashion maybe some teams wouldn't suck so hard.
As a former lurker of 6 months I should say this board's been a big help. Current #s: bench 240 deadlift 345 squat 350ish at 165lb. No formal training til a year ago, mostly Bill Starr stuff courtesy of the football team. Training westside with olympic lifts and a few other little tricks added in now that I'm boxing.
