A few questions

Long time lurker, first time poster....

A few questions that I had for everone on here, hopefully I can get some great information.

1.) Yogurt? Good news or Bad? On the label, looks like a lot of uneccessary carbs.

2.) Ratios? What ratios does everyone here live by? As for carb/fat/protein ratios?

3.) Joint pain? Is this common for people doing heavy lifts? I've been working out for about 2 years now and I'm starting to get a lot of pain in my elbows following heavy upper body days. Is there something I should be looking for in my diet? Problems while training? Yoga?

Thanks for all future replies.

Hello !

1). Yogurt. I avoid yogurt....especially when I am dieting. There are plenty of good aspects of yogurt, but I tend to avoid dairy products as they bloat me. Also, there are A LOT of sugars in regular yogurt...simple sugars.

2.Ratios are tricky. They all depend on what you are doing and what you are trying to accomplish. A safe one to go with is 50 % protein, 25 % carbs and 25% fats.

3. Joint pain. If you have serious joint pain, I could recommend two things:

go to your doctor OR
self medicate (supplemental)

It would be helpful if you included more information.

What are your goals?
What does your diet look like now?
Stats?

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply, i guess I shoulda been more specific, lol
1.) I usually tend to go for the lite stuff, but it still has a ton of fruit sugars in it.
2.) Ratios: im usually around C/F/P @ 45/15/40. Most of my fats come ANPB and Meats(red or salmon). I usually consume 3100-3500 calories per day, with at least 250 g protein.

3.) The joint pain isn't something I would consider serious. Its mostly a dull ache that I feel in my elbows for a few hours after a work out.

Stats: Currently 23, still in college (still drinkin too much beer), 6' 185, I would estimate by body fat at around 6-8%.
Goals: I would like to add 5-10 pounds of lean muscle within the next 6 months and lose about 5 pounds body fat.
I currently supplement with whey shakes and creatine, and have just added in GABA pre-workout(I feel it gives me a great energy boost)
I work out M-F for about 1.5 hours per day. In addition to lifting, I practice jeet kune do twice a week for 1.5 hours, mostly consisting of heavy cardio and endurance traning.

Thanks!

1-if youre trying to lose body fat, then drop the yogurt. you can add something better instead.

2-as far as your ratios, i say you definitely need more fat. fat helps build test levels (healthy fats here like flax oil). the best body building ratio i have used is 40% pro, and 30% for carbs and fat.

3-if joint pain is only there the day or two after heavy workouts and goes away, id say your fine. BUT if it stays around all week, id definitely go get it looked at.

hope this helps.

good.. the brand I use kroger lite any flavor per container 80 cal/0 fat/13 carb/ 7 prot. The same as mixing 8 oz of nonfat milk with your protein shake
2.) Ratios? What ratios does everyone here live by? As for carb/fat/protein ratios?
54%prot/ 31% carbs/ 15% fats
3.) Joint pain? Is this common for people doing heavy lifts? I've been working out for about 2 years now and I'm starting to get a lot of pain in my elbows following heavy upper body days. Is there something I should be looking for in my diet? Problems while training? Yoga?
I used to have that problem. 2 things....keep some fats in your diet. When I got below 15% my joints hurt. Ive also incorporated fish oil...3 tabs. in morning and 3 after the gym. Secondly about your elbow pain. If your training chest and delts in the same week(pressing movements) put a min. 2 days before another pressing session(delts). It helped me, hopefully this will help you too. :)
