What type of chain for WSB?

I'm going to head over to Home Depot and Lowes to get some chain for doing some WSB training. What type of chain do I want? I'm guessing the biggest and heaviest they have, right? And how long of pieces do I need to buy? I'm going to use it for benches and squats, I'm thinking 11 ft sections would be good. Is that right?

Is this chain to use on lifts for accomodating resistance or for chain suspended good mornings? I hear it is a bitch to find 5/8" chain at local places.

Accomodating resistance.

The Lowes by me has pretty much everything - welders, sheet steel, steel strap, angle steel, etc. and I know I've seen some big chains there too. If they don't have 5/8", I'm pretty sure they'll have 1/2".

So are 11' lengths ok? I figure since I'm 5'10" I'm probably about 5' at the point where the bar rests on squats, double that and add a little and 11' sound about right. Make sense?

If you are going to use that one type of chain only, I would go with13'-13.5'. You are about 6' tall, so thats 12' right there, plus if you are wrapping it around the collar thats extra. Also you need some to stay on the floor even at full height.

OK, that makes sense. I'll try to get 13' lengths.

I found some interesting info online about chains. For stainless steel chains here is the weight:

3/8" = 1.48 Lbs./ft.
1/2" = 2.55 Lbs./ft.
5/8" = 3.83 Lbs./ft.
3/4" = 5.91 Lbs./ft.
1" = 10.88 Lbs./ft.

I would imagine you can only get 3/4" and 1" chain at boating supply houses and shipyards though.

Lowes/Home Depot only carry up to 3/8 chain it runs about 1.95per ft.

you need at least

(2) 6ft of small(3/16) guide chain to hang your bigger chain from. you want all the big chain on the ground at the "bottom"

(2) extra large carabeneers

5ft. sections of 3/8 chain. hang/drape them in half(2.5ft) from the guide chain. 2.5ft should be plenty o cover your full ROM even if you squat ass to grass.

5ft. sections weigh about 9lbs. each
i just use 4/5 per side.

because 5/8 chain is EXPENSIVE! $5-7per ft.

Where did you buy your chain from?

I've found boating supply stores online that sell 5/8" and 3/4" chain, but they generally only sell it in 75 foot rolls for around $450 and I have to imagine that shipping charges on 350 lbs of chain is ridiculous.

3/8 at HOME DEPOT.

i'm on a budget so i'll just buy more chain as i need it(stronger).

i'm not benching 500lbs or squatting 700lb. so i figure i dont need 100's lbs. of chain.
