Im sure its been talked about. But my search button is not working. Ive been in sales/oil business for the last 5 years. Im ready for a change, and I want to what I love for a living. Wich is helping people and making money while doing it. So throw me some numbers guys. Thanks!

pt's are a dime a dozen and most of them dont know their head from their ass. the read their books to pass the exam then preach the garbage thats in them. i know a few. one of them is an x pro wresteler. he is the only one that i know that makes any worth while money i guess. i think he pulls 50k from it but thats not all he does. i think he is the most successful out of them because he is the only one that doesnt blow that exam crap up peoples asses.

Ummm, you are sadly mistaken joed.

I have 16 years in the fitness industry, am a CPT, Nutritional Consultant and Prep Coach ...AND... national level fbb. You don't get where I am not knowing my head from my ass, thank you.

I teach PRACTICAL APPLICATION not book bullshit. People don't understand technical mumbo jumbo anyway so what would be the point.

To answer your question Goluan - it depends on where you're located. We were in Indiana and they're more interested in the buffet there than a gym membership. We moved to AZ and were bringing in about 5K a month between the 2 of us - and we've only been here 4 months.

i think you are mistaken. please read my reply. it says most. not all. go vivit some gyms and see what most of the trainers are teaching and see if im wrong. most of the trainers out there buy a few books study them on their own then shortly after pass an exam then spread their ignorane on to the unwise beginners. that is how it is. again its most of them not all of them. congradulations to you and your husband on all of your success.

hmmmmm there is truth in both of your statements..

but to say most and to generalize i think is wrong..

in my guy, myself and 1 other are the oldest trainers we train in much the same style.. we also have 1 with a sports med degree, one that teaches strength to the University of Minnesota football team and assort other noobs..

experience and having a body that shows you can do, not just teach is a great way to succeed..

can you make cash doing this?? sure.. but if all you do is training, it's not enough for me but that's not all i do..

and even at $70 hr rate, it can burn you out pretty quick.. x 20 hours week = 70k year.. a 2x week contract for a strength coaching position can pay more, but is a short term contract..

nutritional training and certification training can earn me another 2-6k per month, but travel is involved..

the point being the business is very diverse you need to find out what you enjoy doing..

Thanks for all the info. Im in it for more than just the money, its a passion not a job. Im actually starting school in Jan to get my Certifications/and or Degree in personal fitness.

Some trainers at my gym charge 75 an hr! I hear some in beverly hills and mallibu cahrge under 200 an hr! otherwise some are from 20 an hr to 50...
I had a very bad experience with trainers from local gym's that were of the actual gym staff trainers.
They gave poor advise and even got me injured.
I am studying the ACE which requires a lot more knowledge than the average gym staff knows.

I think you area makes the market. If you are working in Los Angeles/Hollywood/Bev Hills, you can charge $70-$150 an hour!

The most successful personal trainers I know are business people and not just enthusiasts and they outsource their services. If you are a competent in marketing and sales you can generate a very large client base, however may not have the time or resources to actually train them. Hiring or sub contracting your own trainers or taking a 'finders fee' and essentially selling your clients to other trainers that may not be as business savy as yourself is an easy way to increase your income.

What it comes down to at the end of the day is your marketing and promotional innovation and sales ability to get business, which is something I recommend personal trainers spend more time developing...without clients you're neither 'helping' anyone nor earning a living.

Anywhere from $10/hr to $75/hr.

It will depend on your location, your type of clientelle, and the quality of the training (if you are taking them out and boot camping them in the hills or on the beach, or the niceness of the gym you are training them in, or the size of their house if you are doing home training, etc.)

Imagine yourself as a car salesman. The type of car you try to sell depends on who is walking on the lot and what type of car they just got out of.
