What are the best brands for gym equipment

mrt

New member
I am planning to build my own personal gym and search what brand I should choose. I am not interested in those hi-tech computerized units, reliable, easy to use, good quality equipment will be just fine.

Typical equipment will be:

-Treadmill
-Bench Press
-Squat Rack
-Shoulder, Back, Tricep station
-Leg Curl/Extension
-Dumbell set
-Barbells, racks, benches, etc

What are the proven, high quality brands?

Thanks

I don't know much about cardio, but:

Squat rack--anything that is sturdy enough to hold the weights you typically use. I don't think you have to be brand conscious as long as the welds look good.

Same goes for bench press, racks, benches, and DBs. Look into getting a pair of Olympic DB handles. They are like mini-barbells that you can load up with whatever weight you want. Much cheaper than a full set of DBs. Only catch is you have to change them all the time. I got mine from weightlifters warehouse.

Barbells: hands down the best brand is Ivanko. However also one of the most expensive. I have heard that York barbells are a good combo of value and quality. Make sure you get matching bars and plates and a set of good collars (Ivanko makes a great pair of screw down collars that are only like $13).
