watch out for malitol

just to give everyone a heads up, i work in a nutrition store and shitloads of people have been complaining about products containing malitol giving them the runs. I have also had this happen personally so I believe them. If one person calls a person an ass, he may be an ass, if 100 people call a person an ass, he is an ass. I truly believe malitol causes the runs at even minute dosages. Be careful. oh, if you didn't know, malitol is a sugar substitute

Maltitol. "Malitol" is a common misspelling. (And if you speak Spanish or French, the "mal" prefix of both should tell you it's not good for you!)

Doesn't the "mal" prefix come from malt? Since it's derived from maltose syrup?

I don't think it means "bad" (as in the Spanish prefix) but then again you were likely just joking around!!

But too many polyols in your diet will definitely loosen your stools (in a "bad" way!!).

Correct on both counts. "Mal" is just what comes to mind when I think of sugar alcohols.

probably the most returned product are those new sugarfree bars with 0 protein in them, malitol is the number one ingredient in them
