Variations of Partial Reps?

Just wondering who uses Partials in their workouts and how?

I have been doing lockout closegrips for tris for about 3 weeks and am loving them. I only perform the upper 4 inches and do 5 sets of 5. They work because of the heavy weight you are able to use to stimulate growth.

I think I might do some partials during my chest workout but am not sure the optimal way to perform them. I guess i shoud do them first since I will be able to use the most weight to stimulate the pecs.

Anyone ever bench only top half. In which you would go down until your humerus is parallel to the floor?

What about half squats or quarter squats to overload the legs?

i always do partials on the bench (all angles), the last 1/4 of the motion it all tricept, keeping a 3/4 rom, keeps stress on the chest at all times, you get a much better pump, and on top of that, when your on your last rep, you can totally max out your pectorial fibres before you tris give out. i do this with lat rows sometimes, as well as partial squats.

its amazing what little things like this can do to bust you out of a plateau. tempo is another deadly weapon to play around with when progress slows down.

good luck with training bro!!

Wouldn't this mean that all of those guys who do partial reps at the gym should be huge? Or (I'm probably going to answer my own question here) maybe only the muscles involved in the particular ROM get bigger / stronger......hence powerlifters doing partials from their weakspot.

There is a lot more to getting "huge" than what exercises you do.

Never let partials take away the full range exercise. Sure...do some board presses (not a fan of partial presses), but not in place of full range exercises.

Of course not.

Just need to add more techniques to the Repertoire.

I figure for chest I'll do one or two sets of heavy half rep inclines...then I'll drop the weight and do another two sets of full range. Then I may do the same for flat. Haven't decided yet.

But my tris are the sorest (spelling) they have been in weeks after doing close grip lockouts.

For bench partials do rack lockouts, and various height board presses. For most people a floor press is a good partial.

For legs, a good partial is a high box squat.

For deadlift, deads off blocks or off the rack pins are good.
