i have two friends that are better built that 95% of the gym rats when they dont even work out. i'm talking 17-18" arms and 28+" legs. sub 10% bf. and this is when they dont workout. best genetics i have ever seen. one started working out and about a year into it he was sqautting 500lbs and BP'ing 365. they are african american. now you might why this matters but it seems pretty common to see AA's to be very well built.

it's all in the genes.

Genetics doesn't stop people from trying to get better jobs and/or make more money, just because they don't have the born brainpower of Stephen Hawking. Everybody has to make do with what they have, but don't use it as a crutch. I've never bothered to find my IQ because it doesn't matter. If I tested low I might lose motivation and not work hard. If I tested high I might rest on that and not work as hard. I'm going to try to be the best I can be regardless.

Bingo!

I guess at the elite levels that is true- same for endurance training. And the cool thing about endurance training is you can get a measurement of your genetic capability - your VO2Max level.

However, even if you are limited, you can still overcome a lot of it with good diet, workout ethic, smart training, and that other thing we talk about so much on this board....

Heart and dedication.. thats what its all about..

if you give 100% and truly dedicate yourself to achieving you wont care that your body has less steroid receptors then someone else.. you will be proud of what you accomplished..

if you sit at home crying that your not as big as the next guy and just figure its genetics you will be disappointed with your gains regardless.

I guess I fall into that category.

When I graduated from high school, I was 6', 128 lbs.

It's taken lots of work for me to just look average. Or slightly above.

How bout that Satch? We actually agree on someting! lol

Genetic is the number 1 influencer. That doesn't mean one shouldn't do his absolute best to achieve greater personal goals. Yet still, I think most of us here already are in that boat of trying to make the best of it.

People most of the times do not diffrenciate between what I call:
Genetic Buildup - Initial muscular look
to:
Genetic Musuclar Potential - How your body reacts to weight training.
to:
Genetic Muscular Potential to geat - How your body would react to gear.

Sadly, I'm at the situation as kbrkbr. Bad at all of these 3 issues. That's why I train heavier, eat smarter, takes more gear.. Yet I have a friend who grows of 300mg deca, 500mg sust and 35mg dbols..( The guy is tall and weights 235 @12% BF. Not to talk about he's been clean for a whole year yet still is 215lb.. Damn...

i guess i'm blessed with average genetics.
i cant blow up within a few months, but progress has been steady.

sounds like coleman.

Favorite Coleman quote: "I think Bodybuilding has come a long way, just like everything else."

Thanks for the insight, Ron

Anyway, if you want the look of a bodybuilder, you'll need fair genetics. Some people's muscles are shaped differently than the norm - these people can never compete no matter how big or lean they get because they will never will be able to acheive that "normal" look. But on the other hand, I don't think anything can stop one from getting as big as they want or as cut as they want. Not even genetics. It just may take longer for some individuals.
