not trying to sell anything -

I should clarify my belief with calories in that in a traditional 40-30-30 (carb/pro/fat) diet if your goal is to reduce fat (subcutaneous/brown) calorie expenditure (i.e. what one takes in vs. what one burns off) is going to be top priority.

With the metabolic diet - at least for the first few months calories can be kept at maintenance levels - if not over in some cases and one would will still lose fat and/or weight. However as one gets further into the diet (i.e. months) and wants to start to diet down for say a competition (or just more fat/weight loss) then one can start to design more specifically (tailor) dietary needs.

As for the actual diet w/o going overboard as to specifics, (start of diet) the first two weeks one keeps their carbs at 30gms. Now at the conclusion of the friday of the second week - saturday and sunday are used as one's carb-up time where one shifts (I should add that during the week fat/pro/carb percentages should be 45%/40-45%/10%-15% respectivly) and uses the same percentages aforementioned - however the protein is now the low percentage (10-15%) and then obviously one starts the high fat/Pro low carb on monday and the cycle repeats. I guess in a way kinda of like the CKD diets I see mentioned in these boards - however the author (Pasquale) stresses that the weekends one can eat primarily anything (keeping in mind low pro)- thus being more of a 'social diet' on the weekends.

After the first few weeks - one needs to be instictive so that one can accurately guage the amount of carbs to have during the week. In a perfect world 30gm (or less) mon thru fri would be the best, however Pasquale stresses that everyone is different and that some folks are better fat oxidizers than others (i.e. those who can burn fat much easier have a much better time of keeping their carbs to 30gms - while others need to go a little higher). Basically Pasquale claims that one should not go over 200gm mon thru fri (extremely high end) of the fat burning portion of the phase - and one deduces final carb numbers to use by adding 5gms p/d to find optimal number - one can add these carbs in at any point of the day (especially pre and/or post workout). There are other things to be done on the diet but that is about as simple as i can wirte it.

And yes I dont like any of his supplement line(s). However Since I have been practicing his diet on and off since '95 I can say with extreme confidence it works quite well.

If anyone else has questions just reply...

Ahh ok, then yes I agree with the calorie statement

The diet is very good, I agree there too, he and duchaine basically got me interested in this sport with their amazing knowledge.
