Response to Run vs. Walk

Monday started my first body building traditional leaning process in an attempt to go from 15% BF to <10%. I currently weigh 189lbs @ 5'10" (22years old). Here's my plan for all to criticize. Years ago I wrestled in high-school and middle school and before that a club team. I didn't have to worry cause we ate less and practiced hard and always maintained weight. We lost weight in all the wrong ways! This time I want to do it to get rock hard, ready for sprig break look. I have an excellent build and good muscle proportion genetics from my pops...thanks dad! However I retain fat around my abdomen througohout college which makes my shoulders look less wide. But during wreslting when I was 7% BF I looked wider and larger then I do now cause of proportions.

In repsonse to walking vs running. I have been walking at 3.5-4 mph uphill on level 10. I read in a muscle mag, and this massive lean guy at the gym does the same. My heart rate is at a constant 170+. So I figured it is working, I can honestly feel it as well. What i like about this method is it doesn't tire out my legs, and I walk for an hour at a time! It doesn't impede on my leg training, cause I am not wore out. I am wondering if anyone has tried this method, or heard about it...it's liek walking up stairs or uphill...it really gets me sweating, but without the winded feeling in my legs...just in my heart. This is done in the morning, and with a pretty good lean diet, followed by a 2 hour intense workout in the evening. Weightloss is elvated heart rate for prolonged periods greater then 20 minutes correct...so...it's been two days, I'll stick with it for four weeks to see if it works, if not I will pick up the pace and jog maybe :) Hell, it's 60 minutes of elevated heart rate of 170!

I don't think it matters if you are running or walking up a wall, as long as your heart rate is within range of your target or higher is only thing that matters. At least from what I've learned. If your heart rate is 170 jogging, or 170 at 3.5mph going uphill, I'd defintly be walking my ass uphill if it was for weight loss.

I'm new to all this but from everything I've learned so far I think it all boils down to what is your heart rate. Could be wrong, I usually am.
