r-ALA + no carbs + heavy workout = not good

My weight is up to 252.5 preworkout today and I've been taking r-ALA consistently for the past few weeks. I started my workout and was feeling really heavy, lightheaded and seemingly getting winded easilly. I was thinking to myself is this my heart having problems due to my increasing weight? I thought about it and went for some carbs (Powerade). A short while after the carbs I felt 100% better. That was a little scarey, since I felt like I was not in control or something. r-ALA is some powerful stuff alright.

No more workouts w/o carbs in my body just before.

Thanks bro. I've been taking r-ala with every meal, high or low carbs. I took two caps about two hours before my workout with a fairly low carb meal. Then no carbs until I had the Powerade during my workout. I need to be more careful than that. It's amazing how I came around after having the carbs though.
 
Yeah, sounds like you went hypo. Suprisingly, thats never happened to me while taking r-ALA...I even used to take 100mg r-ALA before doing morning cardio on an empty stomach just to drop my blood sugar down even more...never had a problem.


252lbs eh'? Sound slike you've put some good size on !
 
I take about 2-3 100mg r-ALA capsules before a regular meal with carbs, and about 6-8 100mg r-ALA capsules before my "cheat day" meal----say going out to eat at Fuddrucker's, or having pizza. I've noticed that by using the r-ALA, I feel a helluva less bloated and tired after eating heavy meals, and that a great deal of the carbs are being converted into muscle. Excellent product.

BTW, is it possible to take too much r-ALA at one time?

800-1000mg of r-ALA at once is WAY too much. I would say 400-500mg MAX before a HUGE cheat meal.
 
If you want to absolutely MAXIMIZE glucose disposal at the expense of money...you should use 800mg R-ALA per 100g carbs.

I use 3.2g R-ALA/day.

Ya know bro I've taken the stuff before too and don't remember being that sensitive to it either. I've been doing 200mg about 4 or 5 times per day though. Maybe that's it. But the one thing I am doing different now is taking it with the Biotin. Hmm, think that makes such a difference? I dunno, but damn it was no fun earlier I'll tell ya.

Yeah bro, I don't know where the weight will end up either because I've quite a ways to go on the the cycle I'm currently on. The diet is really clean but fairly large calorie intake. But to me my frame looks like it can hold at least 20 more lean lbs. But I don't really want to weigh 270+ so I don't know what the hell to do.

I agree, that's an awful lot of r-ala to be taking at once.

Hulkster do you take in any carbs preworkout? Have you ever had any issues with hypoglycemic effects during a workout on those kind of doses?
