Protan is literally a skin day that you paint on. You put it on w/ gloves & its messy as hell. It gets all over everythign until its had a chance to dry (like stand nekkid for an hour w/ a big fan blowing on u) and then let it set over night wearing long pants & sleeves. Definitely not for normal "tan" look. The intended purpose is coloring that can stand up to bright stage or photography lighting.
A note about Dreamtan -- I"ve been hearing that many venues dont' even allow you to use Dream tan because it rubs off on everything -- so check your competition's rules before planning to use it.
At my first show, a friend of mine used Dreamtan and looked like he was rolled in curry or something -- sort of a shiny orange. But he said after the pre-judge in the morning, he sat around in it for a few hours & then took a shower and looked amazing at the night show. I need to ask around about that as well because I"ve not heard of anyone else trying that yet.
JBL001 has mentioned Olympic Tan on a number of boards as somthing that is not as smelly or hard to use as Protan. And cheaper. I'm continuing to look into that -- its not something I've heard of before but will be asking around.
I need to stop in at a MAC store once & get the make-over. And don't forget to consider that you will have much darker skin when you are picking your makeup!
