Questions about Prof. Figure/Fitness Model's Diets

I know we've discussed this, but I have the current copy of Oxygen and am still confused by how little these chicks eat. I look at Sassy's diet and it looks tight & healthy. These women maybe at half of what she's eating, or so they say.

Are they always showing pre-contest diets?

a couple of points:

1 - Sassy has a LOT of muscle.....so her cals will automatically be higher than someone who weigh 110 or so.

2 - the diest presented, if not comp diets, are close to what a comp diet would be...these women stay in shape year round as its their job and get paid for contest prmos etc

3 - DRUGS.....HUGE difference...they allow you to eat 30% BELOW MAINTENANCE cals and not lose any muscle

...take TREN, while is a guy drug, I friend was on it...killed his appetite and his cals dropped to 600-900 per day(weighed 230)...he got leaner and his scale weighrt never budged

I was reading Oxy too and noticed the same thing, plus twice as much cardio (5-6 days)

That amount of cardio is pre-competition, it's not like that year around.

Yeah - we've discussed the drugs.

What I don't like about it is that it sends the wrong message to women who don't know about the cutting drugs. They look at these diets and all that damn cardio thinking that it's the only way. Then they fail because because of it.

I think that a figure "look" is doable with clen, fat burners and maybe a touch of var...perhaps primo.

thats still a fair amount of gear

look at some tested shows for a reality check

oops, just read your post... never mind 24K

Plus, again, you can't always believe what you read.

They usually DO do a ton of cardio. I personally know if a couple fitness models who do VERY LITTLE - IF ANY weights. They rely on cardio and pilates ONLY. I've had several discussions with them about this.

For the non-competitors, the muscular look is pretty frowned upon in general fitness modelling. They want definition, but not muscle separation. 6 pack? No way.

You see? this is what frustrates me most. Women are set of to fail by trying to emulate an impossible program.

thats why we have EF

is even worse on the mens side....

If it was 77..and I opened a flex and saw Frank Zane, who in my opinion had the best physique to even hit the stage, - I would think - thats doable....he was 180-185 during his 3 years as Mr. O

Open a flex now and you have an offseason Ronnie Coleman who is hard at 310

its too much

Also not every program is going to work for every girl, you got to find what works for you.

Just take for example Daisy, I think she said before that she doesn't train with weights for her legs, she doesn't need to, plyometrics work better for her.

Very true. Good point.

The only problem is that when you are dealing with a magazine, you are usually dealing with the uneduacted public. They read something, and think it will work for them. They will follow something blindly, without every asking 'why' or how they can switch something around.

I mean, how many new poster's here have you seen that come and say "I am doing everything I can, I eat good, I train hard, and I can't lose fat!" -- but then find out they are eating the wrong food choices, doing cardio 800x a week, and lifting the pink dumbbells because they will "turn in to a man"!

The public is set up to fail, on the basis of their ignorance and gullibility (is that a word?) - and the fact they beleive blindly, without taking responsibility for themselves.

Thisn is my opinion, as harsh as it sounds. :)

To the point of cardio - I'm guessing most competitors or models prepping for a particular date to look a certain way are going to be doing ridiculous amounts of cardio -- I know it takes 2 sessions of cardio/day at least 3x/week for me to cut way down. I also think that the diets we are talking about are those that fall into the 12-week prep period. So yea it is almost all bullshit relative to the regular person. And if it isn't some sort of "extreme" type of diet or somethng that can be talked about w/ a schedule of meals, specific foods and total cals, it just doesn't make it look "special" to the reader. i.e. no reason to highlight it as an interesting article. People like these canned "programs" --- just describing a "normal" way of eating wouldn't be attractive or "convincing" to the general reading populous. And also these articles are talking about prepping for a specific goal, not just general "wellness".

I totally agree with you Daisy.

Oh and just so you know ladies alot of the girls have to do insane amounts of cardio close to competition cause they let themselves get out of shape in the off season.

Remember I went to that camp last month, well there were quite a few girls there, that I shocked on how out of shape they were, I couldn't believe they were getting ready to compete in April.

MIss, where is this camp? Just curious

Seems easier to keep yourself in condition than to have to yo-yo back and forth.

You got your picture taken with Alicia Denson? She always looks awesome in magazines.

Yup I did, she's funny as hell, actually that pic is in my gallery too.

And she is 1 of the girls that looks as good as she does in the magazines in person.

But TRUE competitors need an off season. Not fitness models, but COMPETITORS. During this off season, they usually look to add muscle. They do this in order to place higher - of course, this depends on the federation. It is very difficult to add muscle without adding some fat ..... even on AAS it can be hard.

ALso, think of the insane dieting and training these ladies go through to get to a comp - they simply cannot maintain this year round. When they let the diet relax a little, and the training, then fat gain is bound to happen.

Not to mention, the destruction they do to their metabolism. Talk to Sassy about that - she dealt with this.

Extreme dieting, extreme training, and THEN add drug use - can play havoc on one's metabolism.

Optimally if you need to cut regularly (e.g. "career competitor"), they recommend you stay w/in 15 lbs of your goal weight & 5% bf so you don't go thru those extreme swings. The male pros go crazy off season-- ever see King Kamali off seaons?? Ronnie?? LEE PRIEST?? Nutso. Those guys will PAY for those weight swings in the future. But as Daisy said, my experience, if you go thru severe weight swings that you don't anticipate over short periods of time, these screw w/ your brain & your attitude (thus your well-being) and also your body may just decide it isn't go to play that game any more & just shut you down. The harder you try to achieve where you think you should be mentally but aren't geting those results, the more you start over training and worrying and then you are double-fucking yourself.

Your show is in July? I read your question to Chefy with some advice about wine and glycerin. (Can't find it now) Could you tell me what they'll do for you? (besides boosting bikini confidence levels at showtime.:D)

The glycerin component is new to me, but red wine is a diuretic & gets you more vascular for show time.

For me the "lessening the inhibitions" (i.e. getting loaded) was the more valuable result.

Glycerol mixed in water creates a drawing effect...it pulls sub-q water into the muscle bellies...its tricky and needs to be practiced as with any contest prep...Ive tried it and it impoved my vascularit by 50%...but you have to be LEAN for it to work....

inw - visible abs.....

otherwise, the water will be drawn but the fat will remain

That's gonna be a kick to try... I figure I"m about 2% bf away from ab-age....

Geez, I just checked out the savagechoreography site. :bawling:
If I didn't already feel really fat, I do now!!!!:bawling:
There are some great food ideas on the girls' sites though. Thanks!
Man, I'd give anything to look just close to that  Do those girls use drugs to get that cut or are they just young and lucky??

I'm jealous that you have a pic of you with Alicia Denson...did she give you any tips /pointers?

Thank you Skittle, you're a sweetie...

Like I said Alicia, helped me out a bit with the walk, and spoke about make up selection and tanning.

Did she recommend specific brands of makeup & tan products?

Yes, she said MAC for make up.

And she said it depends on your type of skin for tanning, some people turn a greenish tint or orange with certain tanners while others go a nice deep brown, she said you should test them out before hand. She recommended pro-tan and dreamtan. But the dreamtan is messy as hell, you got to be very careful with that 1, especially when trying to put on your clothes. :worried:

I'm going to be using protan, I've already tested it out on my skin, and I get a beauitful golden brown colour...I'm so happy it doesn't turn me green, lol.

Is a product like Pro Tan something I should not consider using prior to my cruise?

No girl that's not something you want to use, it's VERY dark....lol

See...I was one of those dorks mislead by the oxygen mag. I have been trying to emulate what the figure models do. I thank you all here at EF for trying to set me on the right track. It was very easy for me to get caught up in thinking, I too could look like that by following what I read in the articles. Now I know better. I'm thankful to be able to go to a board with such helpful, real women.

IMO, when that happens you set yourself up for failure before you even start.

You found the right place :)

Yup!! I got soooo frustrated with food plan, workouts etc!!! I was becoming very unmotivated. I know I am in the right place now! All the great advice, that actually works and the support, I am so motivated! Love ya!

These magazines drive me crazy, I don't even read them anymore. I do like Flex though, er sometimes if I can get past all the ads and get to the good stuff.
Those articles in Oxygen crack me up, they may be talking about so and so's diet and how she has such a fast metabolism then they go and post this diet that looks like its about 1000 calories at most. This is so misleading to the uneducated. You can pick up cosmo or elle and get a diet like those that will guarantee you lose 10 lbs in 10 days. I thought these mags like Ox were supposed to be supporting a healthy lifestyle. Some of those articles are just plain bs.

Protan is literally a skin day that you paint on. You put it on w/ gloves & its messy as hell. It gets all over everythign until its had a chance to dry (like stand nekkid for an hour w/ a big fan blowing on u) and then let it set over night wearing long pants & sleeves. Definitely not for normal "tan" look. The intended purpose is coloring that can stand up to bright stage or photography lighting.

A note about Dreamtan -- I"ve been hearing that many venues dont' even allow you to use Dream tan because it rubs off on everything -- so check your competition's rules before planning to use it.

At my first show, a friend of mine used Dreamtan and looked like he was rolled in curry or something -- sort of a shiny orange. But he said after the pre-judge in the morning, he sat around in it for a few hours & then took a shower and looked amazing at the night show. I need to ask around about that as well because I"ve not heard of anyone else trying that yet.

JBL001 has mentioned Olympic Tan on a number of boards as somthing that is not as smelly or hard to use as Protan. And cheaper. I'm continuing to look into that -- its not something I've heard of before but will be asking around.

I need to stop in at a MAC store once & get the make-over. And don't forget to consider that you will have much darker skin when you are picking your makeup!

Yea well Alicia uses dreamtan, I'ma stay away from that though, cause I'll be pretty damn pissed if i got it on my $250 suit, and it's a light colour too, so it would stain for sure.

Yea as for make up I got to go to the MAC counter too, I'm going to put a few coats of protan on my shoulder or something and tell them I'm going to be darker than that.
