Question about making my own sled

Doesn't that thing make a HECK of a racket on the tar road? Don't the neighbours complain? Any point in pulling it on grass, like in a park? I take it one would just make it heavier to compensate for the lower friction?

Or go out in the country ....

Although I grew up in NYC, behind my house was a baseball field. In the winter it wasn't usefull for baseball though, overgrown with weeds and covered in a thick layer of snow, so, I'd take my sled, and a of couple neighborhood kids (Jefffrey and Francis, my two best friends were boys at the time), and my shepheard dog, Nippy, and we'd have some fun...poor dog would pull us all around and never complain. :)

I'm sure this doesn't help answer your sound question, but I thought I'd just share my childhood memory with ya. That and the fact that I just came home from our gym's Christmas party and I'm full of beer and mind erasers. :p

Cool! Thanks. This is going to be my first ever proper welding project, heh heh.

Puddles - thanks for the memory ;) I think we MAY be talking about different types of sleds, but yours sounds like fun anyway :)

You can make your own sled pretty cheap...:) It might be more quiet this way too...

Oooh! That's cool b fold! But .... do you put plates on that? Or just a bunch of scrap metal? How does it stay on? With that rope?

And when youdrag, I take it one end is up off the ground, right? Mmmmm .... how come one end isn't all worn down inthat pic?

rjl296: Same question ... what do you use to weight it? Plates would fall through the hole ....

Nah Steel, you don't have to bother with weights, grab a couple of small kids, bung them on the sled and work up from there. If you need a big kid, I'll sit on it. Looks like fun...

That sled belongs to a friend of mine. He used it as a medley. He would carry Kegs, place them on the sled, then drag the sled. He hooked a chain to the sled so that it would not come off of the ground.
