sure, messing with the stance will bring different muscles into play. give them more involvement over others. close stances put a great deal of stress on the quads, but individual muscles within the complex?
all this anecdotal evidence about hacks etc etc or close stance this or that leads to one conclusion...YOUR QUADS GREW...period. not your lateralus, or your vmo or intermedius. all 3 grew, and depending on your movement rectus femorus as well. you took the emphasis off of the adductors, less ham and glute involvement and the stress went to the quads.
