PW Food Choice - whole foods

fats will slow down digestion and inhibit the fast, crucial breakdown of simple carbs and protein. Milk is also a bad idea post-workout because it's slow-digesting (casein protein).

People say this all the time but I just don't see the logic (and my logic could totally be WRONG).

If you're taking 50gs of whey, with two cups of smim milk which is another like 16gs of protein if I'm not mistaken, You're feeding your muscles with 75% whey and 25% casein which will assure ur muscles are being fed non stop both up front and over the course of the enxt 6 to 7 hour, plus the 2-3 more meals u will have in that span. Its not like a muscle is only going to get one kind, or even be able to digest all of it in either case anyway.

Does this make sense or am I off base?

Gatoraid is crap - 100% apple juice is probably the best source of simples pwo. Gatoraid is high in HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup). Terrrible for the gut.

Gatorade may not be best for some situations but it is the best drink you can have if you do hard core cardio, better than water (not crap). If you only new what gatorade puts into making that drink in the lab.

I personally don't drink gatorade but it has its merits...not saying it's the best choice, but it's an option... and definitely better than some other options I've seen in this thread so far... I take a recovery powder that has hydrolyzed rice syrup and dextrose... plus different kinds of proteins (except casein)...

easiest PWO recovery shake would be whey + maltodextrin or dextrose

one thing about gatorade is i can drink a lot of it and fast. the sugars don't do a thing to me as far as fat so it makes no difference. the machine swore by gatorade powder as his dextrose.

Exactly.. After reading Mak's thread over in the other forum I immediately decided to use the Dextrose Oatmeal combo..

Unfortunately, I am very sensitive to carbs.. I bloat up like a fish. Although, I think it may have something to do with my sodium/potassium balance, I'm going to experiment with supplementing more potassium in my diet.

But yeah the dextrose oatmeal post combo idea is friggin brilliant..

Yes and no.... maybe... I'm not a nutritionist or dietician, but the way I see it, as has been already said, post-workout your body is in catabolic state.... it's starving for quick-digesting carbs and protein.... if you add anything that will slow down digestion (e.g. fats, casein), you're missing that crucial window in which your muscles will utilize those nutrients... your body will take longer to digest even the fast-acting protein such as whey.... again, just my way of thinking... casein and fats have their merit at other times throughout the day, most notably at bed-time, when you want a slow, steady release of nutrients

While bulking, I have used instant mashed potatoes as a quick source, it worked well, but it's not what I would do if trying to stay lean.
