protein intake, how much?

Sup Bro's, what do you guys recommend for a daily dosage of protein.
I have heard that you should intake your bodyweight in grams. I weigh 170lbs so does that mean I should consume at least 170 grams of protein?
Also, I just bought some liquid protein, it's made by Twin Labs and and it is the ANABOLIC version of it, has anyone ever tryed this stuff? The only thing that sucks about this stuff is that it only has 15 grams per serving.


BTW, no sick jokes about where I can get protein! :chomp:

this is kinda the wrong board to be posting this, but ill try to help you out. first off, when they say only consume 1 gram of protien per pound of bodyweight, thats only for maitanance. to build muscle you will need much more, like at least 300 grams every day. as far as the twinlab protien, i hope you didnt pay too much for it, because they are tipicaly overpriced IMHO.
look for a protien that has at least 40-50 grams of protien each serving, that way you dont have to drink as many each day ;)
but remember that most of your protien/calorie intake should be from reall food.

I'm 200 lbs, 12.5% bodyfat, and I shoot for a minimum of 300g of protein per day while bulking, but shoot for more of around 400. Also you will need to take in PLENTY of calories, like 6000+ a day, for energy and to help process the protein. Drink a minimum of 1.5 gallons of water per day, more like 2-2.5 if you can. You will need the water to process the food, and your muscle is something like 70% water, so with growth it will need water.

Remember to keep your calories clean(no junk food, alcohol, soft drinks, etc). Eat lots of carbs. You will grow this way, on or off cycle.
 
In my opinion you should take in 1.5 - 2 grams of protein per lb of bodyweight. Your body can only process so much protein, the rest just gets lost in the bathroom. Side note: There are various types of gear that you should shoot for 2 grams of protein / lb of body weight. Anavar is one of them. Deca and Npp are noted to be more effective with 2 grams per as well.
 
I'd go at least 1.5 grams per lb of BW. If you're a bigger bro, you may well need more. I only count the high quality protein, and take in 50 grams every 3 hours, unless it's PW, then I get 50 grams in my PW shake and another 50 grams from whole food 1.5 hours later.
 
Get into a bod pod or hydro Bf test, Take your lean weight and X's 2
My lean is 165# so I'm doen 330 grams\per day then also 330grams of carbs and 15% good fats...bingo !! up 5 lbs and lost 3%bf in 4 weeks

I agree with everything here except the 6k calories per day.... 6k calories might be needed for hardgainers, but for others that are naturally plump, they will blow up like ballons with Fat on 6k calories per day.... Diet is a very user specific thing.... Meaning everyone is different, and needs to learn what works for them..... Only real way to do this is through Trial and Error, so I would start with your Body Weight in Protein grams, and add calories as you can tolerate them.... If youre getting fat off your diet, cut back on the calories, if youre not, you can keep increasing them.... You'll get alot of different opinions on diet here, but if you just learn what works for you, You'll be fine....

Agreed. I weigh 215 to 235 depending on the time of the year and I try to keep it around 200 grams per day. The only exception is in the spring for three or four months when I'm leaning out. Then, I increase the protien to about 300 grams per day and, I increase my fat intake and cut back on on my carbs.

Yea he might need to play with the calories. I actually try to shovel in 7000 a day right now. I'll put on a very slight bit of fat, but nothing that I couldn't shed in a couple weeks. Everyone is different, though. I just find that at 4k cals a day, I grow, but not as fast as 6k+ a day. That plus I'm a monster in the gym when I increase the calories.
 
6,000 calories a day? jeez... I struggle with 4,000+... is that why I've only gained 15 solid pounds during my current cycle? *smirk* also, I've always thought that general rule of thumb (whatever that means anyway) was 1.5 - 2.5 grams of protein per pound of LEAN body mass... haven't always followed this rule to a tee myself but as other bro's said, it's a guessing game for a while until you figure out what works for you!
