Post-op Rant

Okay, so a month ago I'd been having cramps post-coitus. Well, one evening Maj & I had been wild, and then I get them really bad. I told him it's so bad I can't even make dinner, so he ordered a pizza. I got up to eat with the fam and then went back to bed. Then I got up to go to the bathroom later that night while he's out on the 'puter, and I collapse. Luckily, he heard my head hit the wall. Turns out I was in shock with an internal hemorrage. I get to ride in an ambulance. It's like a little mystery at the ER, to figure out why my abdomen is filling up with blood. Kinda neat, except that I almost died.

Well, turns out my ovarian artery had decided to separate from my ovary. But that's neither here nor there. At least they were able to fix me laparoscopically, but even those three little incisions are still causing me pain. I haven't been able to do more than a little yoga and cardio for a month. I'm getting sick and tired of this. :sulk: I mean, of course, I'm glad to be alive, and that carried me through the first three weeks or so. But how the heck long does it take for surgical incisions to heal, anyway?

6 - 8 weeks. I know this sounds like a long time, but I'm sure it's what your doctor told you, as well. I had a c-section, and this was the amount of time it took for me to completely heal. Even then, I took it easy.

OMG!! Wend!! That is so horrible.....Thank God you are OK!!

As for the incisions -- I had surgery with those "little holes" and yes, they can be tender for quite some time..... Plus the scars look weird later....Do what you can, but if it hurts don't do it & maybe talk to your Dr. about it, just to be safe....

Please let us know how you're oding.... Be well....

No, short one, the doctor told me 14-21 days for my physiology to return to normal (I'd lost a lot of blood), but he didn't give me a good idea of when I could resume lifting. He told me I could do yoga right away, but that just showed he had no idea what doing yoga meant, because I tried and it hurt like hell. I had to wait a couple of weeks before I could even do a cat stretch. Plank took even longer. (It's amazing how much you use your abs for, isn't it?)

I'm going to go to the gym with Maj today and try to lift a little. I'll just use baby weights for anything upright, I guess. I did go once last week and benched, which was okay. But chins were out of the question. Argh. (Thanks, Jens. And thanks to Maj, too; he saved my life. He had to do CPR and everything.)

Well, big hugs to both of you for your ordeal!! Thank God Maj was there.....

Could you maybe see a sports-type of Dr. -- one who, after given info on your condition/surgery, etc might be able to give you an idea of healing time, etc??

Wend deadlifted 135 today for reps!! So apparently my attempts to suppress her were unsuccessful :lmao: I'm glad to have my strong lady coming back. I think she'll just be stronger and more focused on her life goals when it's all said and done.

OMG, I can't even imagine how Maj must have felt doing CPR on you .... and how terrifying that must have been for both of you.

Did they say why it happened? Just "one of those things"? I've never heard of such a thing! Scary!

Well, you are certainly in good hands with Maj. :)

Sending you "feel better" and "quick recovery" vibes ......

yeah - your doctor didn't know what he was talking about. I'm glad you're doing better - and I know how frustrating it is to wait to heal when your mind is ready to go. :rose:

Thanks for the kind words, ladies.

Daisy, you are looking great! Obviously whatever you're doing is working.

Well, I'm beat. That heavy lifting sure will take it out of a body! (135...not bad for my first deadlift, eh?) I'm training for powerlifting now, and I figured the deadlift would be the right one to start with, since it doesn't involve the abs much. I did do bb curls with 50, so I think I'll be alright to squat on Monday. I'll just start with the bar (like I did today) and just keep adding weight til I feel like I'm done.

And yeah, it was scary, especially for Maj. I stopped breathing a couple of times, had seizures, shit my pants, etc. When the paramedics came they couldn't find my pulse. My BP was 80 over 40. Daisy, it just happens sometimes, though very rarely. I had egg tissue unusually close to where the artery had inserted. They took my ovary and the tube out (that's okay, I was done with them, anyway); while they were in there, I had them go ahead and cauterize the other tube, so now Maj gets to go without the loveglove, which makes us both very happy. Talk about a silver lining!
