PMS and exercise

Does anyone else get PMS for like 1 1/2 or 2 weeks straight before their period? I am sick of this and for these 1 1/2 or 2 weeks it takes every bit of strength to do any sort of training! I get absolutely dead tired and can barely lift my 25lb son. Plus i gain like 5-10lbs during these two weeks and poof, it's gone once i get my period. Is that normal? My doctor said it was fine, but jeez, it doesn't seem fine to me. And i become one hell of a bitch for this time too, no one can even talk to me without me jumping down their throat, i just want to be alone. Just needed to vent and was wondering if anyone else goes through this...obviously i am going through this right now!

For about 1-2 weeks before I get my period, my boobs hold so much water I gain a cup size and if anyone touches them I about go thru the roof. Plus backaches, cramps and general tiredness and a baaaaaaaaaaad temper. Haven't found anything to help with these symptoms.

My PMS and my cramping go way way down when I'm on a regular schedule of lots of food, lots of water and lots of exercise. If I'm being a bum for a month though, I'm a total bitch and it hurts like hell.

Audacious, just curios to know if you are on Birth control pills? Those little thingies WILL do it to you every time if you are not on the right ones. I had to change mine because I was a MAJOR BITCH:mad:  I had it sooo bad that people around me would just start crying because I hurt their feelings so:( I also did a search and found that Evening Primrose Oil helps to relieve PMS

some info:
EPO is a natural, and the richest, source of Gamma-Linolenic acid. It contains about 72% Linoleic acid and 9 percent GLA. Since it contains the essential GLA, evening primrose oil is highly valuable to those who cannot otherwise form enough GLA. This would include those who do not get enough essential fatty acids in their diet, drink or have drunk excessive amounts of alcohol, have low thyroid function, or have received radiation treatment. The direct source of GLA takes the pressure off the body to produce the necessary amount of GLA for optimum health.

Preliminary studies in Sweden are relating Evening Primrose Oil to an anti-oxidant in that it also counter acts the formation of free radicals. Free radicals are most often associated with the aging process. Maintaining health is just one of the benefits of Evening Primrose Oil. It is also being studied extensively in England and Europe for its pain reduction in association with arthritis, controlling complications of diabetes, controlling liver and kidney damage due to alcohol, depression, Multiple sclerosis, skin/hair/nail repair, and most impressively, controlling sever symptoms of PMS.

A study at St. Thomas Hospital in London found that when PMS suffers were given evening primrose oil three times daily, 67% of the participants were symptom-free and 22% achieved partial relief. (In all total, 89% had positive results with the evening primrose oil.) Although not as popular in the United States, Evening Primrose Oil is available at most health food stores and nutrition centers. And, as more studies become available, we will find why Evening Primrose Oil was commonly called the “King’s Cure All” in 17th Century England.

Hope this helps some:)

Thank you, thank you, thank you, now i know i am not alone. It's tough b/c my mom hasn't had a period since her hysterectomy 20 yrs ago and my sis never gets PMS and my step mom had a hysterectomy too, so i have no one who knows what i am talking about...(i haven't had much of a social life since having a baby and marriage either, so i have only a handful of female friends)

To Nubian...I am not on the BC pill only b/c i do not respond well to any hormonal BC...so i am getting an IUD put in this month b/c i need some sort of BC and i am allergic to latex and those non latex condoms are way too expensive. Does anyone have an IUD? If so, how has it worked for you, any sides or other opinions?

Audaciacious1,

I've had an IUD for about 4 years. I love it! I tried the BC pill and was a hormone hostage for 2 years -yuk-so I know what you mean when you say "not respond well to hormonal BC". The IUD can make your cramps and bleeding worse and you can spot between periods, but I haven't minded that much. I just take Motrin and get on the heating pad when the cramps are bad.

As far as your PMS symptoms, there may be some things that can help, whether it be a mild diuretic for water retention, an anti-depressant for mood, etc. Of course, water retention alone can make you feel horrible and cranky. Maybe you should get a 2nd opinion from a different doctor - some don't even acknowledge that PMS is a condition.

I was on an antidepressant (it didn't seem to do too much, but it sort of did take the edge off), and will be going back on as soon as i am done taking my Adipo...(don't like to mix things) So maybe that will help again. What type of IUD did you have?
