Overtraining question...

Would I be overtraining if I did a Clean Eating diet, did high rep workouts for maintenance, cardio on tuesday and thursday and saturday, and used strength shoes on monday, wednesday, and friday? I can throw the str shoes out and move cardio to 4-5 days a week if that's too much. I hate cardio but it's always worth it. I have a very important football game on June 28th and want to be a bit lighter on my feet by then.

As long as you don't train to failure, no. Actually if you're looking to maintain muscle, all you need is to perform one set of your 10RM once a week per muscle group.

Edit: Actually, wait a minute...
Is the "Clean Eating" Diet less than maintainance? If that's the case you'd probably have to train more frequently to keep the muscle as you drop fat, such as the 3x/week you suggested. Even if that were the case, you'd probably not overtrain as long as both your weights and cardio weren't really intense.

Middle linebacker, and yeah I'll be eating about 500 calories less than maintenance and I'm planning on trying to burn an additional 500 calories as well with cardio and stuff. Thanks for the input! I think I'll stick with 3x/week training, should I go full body on those days? you say I only need 1 set to maintain?

Yeah, I'd go fullbody as it burns more calories. Also, given a frequent growth stimulus and a lot of protein, you may actually put on LBM while dieting.

Ok, hey can you reccommend a set/rep scheme? just like 2x12-15, 3x/week is what i was thinking as long as 12-15 wasn't failure, sound good?

I'd actually recommend HST as a cutting routine if you want to give that a shot. Guys have generally pretty good results; around half seem to put on LBM and the other half don't really lose any.

nice, well I went today with approximations of my 10 rep max, and went 1x10, and dropped a few lbs and then did one more set of 12 (with fairly strict rep counts and such). I'll PM you another question i have about HST, just because i cant remember it just yet. I used those strength shoes today, OMG they killed me haha. Worth it though, Are there any military personnell on this board by any chance???
