5X5 is a good workout. Do lots of compound movements like Squats, Dead lifts, Bench, etc. Steve has a really good workout system put together in his sig. It's a push/pull/legs type split. Don't be the skinny guy running on the treadmill for an hour as fast as he can wondering why he can't gain weight.
Biggest thing for you is more calories. Not all weight gainers are just sugar. A lot of them have carbs from other sources then sugar. I just wouldn't rely on weight gainers.
Eat 5-6 times a day split 3 hours apart. Shoot for 5-700 calories a meal
